As I detailed in Bugs & Quirks in the VIC-20 BASIC & KERNAL ROMs you're likely to get a framing error on the first byte received if you don't add

Code: Select all

Thank you for that! Funnily enough, anytime I reset my BBS, I always have to make the first call, because my board has a "Press RETURN:" prompt at the beginning, and the first caller always has to hit return twice. Now I know why! I added POKE 169,192 right after I call OPEN and that fixed it!

I also looked through your referenced post - very interesting! I've run into a few of those other issues as well. Another one I run up against is trying to use MEMTOP ($FF99) - it never seems to work for me. So I have to modify the memory pointers directly when opening the RS-232 buffer in ML. Dunno why it doesn't work - I disassembled the code in ROM and it seems like it should work.

Site and Git repo seem to be gone.

Here's the last Git clone I've stashed up.

Rick-T137 combined the Live Wire BBS and the Deep Skies BBS, retaining the longer-lived Deep Skies BBS name, address, and port. (The difference is that Deep Skies is now a VIC-20 BBS instead of a Commodore 64 BBS.) Deep Skies is at: bbs.deepskies.com:6400 (address - bbs.deepskies.com | port - 6400).

I think I gotta put you on the payroll OGM. You do more to promote my BBS than I do. Thank you!

Sorry about that - we had a bit of a mishap with Github.

I have a new repo at https://github.com/RickT137

Just in case anyone's looking, I renamed my GitHub to be my ham radio call sign:

https://github.com/VA3DSO

It's all the same content, just a different URL.

Oh WOW! I am sorry about that (I just clicked it too). The URL is actually: https://www.vicbbs.com/ (no hyphen). I used to have the hyphenated URL, but I lost it due to a hacking incident. Clearly they've made good use of that URL.

Again, sorry about that.

So, then, is there anything about the link that requires more than at least moving the thread out of immediate view for the public?

I do not have an heightened interest to also click the link and be presented with unpleasant things.

I was daring. Just your standard porn-crap. I'd say moderate the bad link away and all is fine.
