Thank you for that! Funnily enough, anytime I reset my BBS, I always have to make the first call, because my board has a "Press RETURN:" prompt at the beginning, and the first caller always has to hit return twice. Now I know why! I added POKE 169,192 right after I call OPEN and that fixed it!
I also looked through your referenced post - very interesting! I've run into a few of those other issues as well. Another one I run up against is trying to use MEMTOP ($FF99) - it never seems to work for me. So I have to modify the memory pointers directly when opening the RS-232 buffer in ML. Dunno why it doesn't work - I disassembled the code in ROM and it seems like it should work.

I think I gotta put you on the payroll OGM. You do more to promote my BBS than I do. Thank you!

Well I got quite a surprise clicking that link
Oh WOW! I am sorry about that (I just clicked it too). The URL is actually: https://www.vicbbs.com/ (no hyphen). I used to have the hyphenated URL, but I lost it due to a hacking incident. Clearly they've made good use of that URL.
Again, sorry about that.
