...plus more

You can download it from http://www.geocities.com/classicspiderman/sys4.zip

A brief look at the six games on the second disk:

Break-Fast: Cool breakout game in only 13 lines!
Hockey: A bit too difficult to steal the puck?
Meteor Zone: Nice presentation, game a bit slow (Basic)
Monkey Kong: Cute, working gameplay. How does the 2nd level work?
Pitfall: Looks authentic. Activision may have been interested in 1983.
Vicfall: Another Pitfall, even more polished.

I did not evaulate the two productivity programs Magidraw (custom character editor) or Mini Assembler, since this is the Games topic.

It's the Ghislain VIC20 Collection!

http://www.jammingsignal.com/vic20/ghislain-vic20.d64

Contents of the D64 files above, added Realms Quest II and Vicside Boxing. Still lots of room on the disk though  What else have you made?

I didn't add the readme's though - no way to view them on the VIC anyway.

man, i haven't checked out all the games, but boy did you do an amazing job!

if someone had told me that your pitfall was a real activision game i would believe it. stunning!

too bad we weren't back in 1982 or so, you would be raking in the cash with your games!

I'm humbled by all of your positive comments... thank you. I am no where near the talented programmer that some of you guys are, so it's nice to finally have an audience for my games. Back in the early 1990s, I only made these games for myself.

"Break-Fast" was actually published in Commodore Magazine in 1988 as the Commodore 64 version. I just ported it to the VIC-20 in 2000 ;)

The story behind that game was that it was a sort of Minigame competition where the code had to fit on a single screen. The contest was announced in L. Sanders' (I forget the name) "Tips and Tricks" column. I won 9th place out of 200 entries :)

As for hockey, you basically learn to avoid the other player as much as possible. Vicfall had so much potential, the main problem with it is that I ran out of RAM so you can't climb up or down the stairs. Maybe I should revisit it to see if I can finally finish it.

Thanks! I haven't really organized my games into a single D64 file, so it's nice to be able to play them from a single source. There's one more VIC-20 game called "Ringside Boxing" (made in 1996, finally finished in 2000). It's a less advanced version of Vicside Boxing except that it's a multi-loader. One great thing about it is that there's a multicolor bitmapped image of Rocky Marciano and Joe Walcott. I actually drew that picture with a program I wrote (for unexpanded VIC!) so I probably should upload that as well in the near future.

gamebase64 also has a few of my Commodore 64 games at:

Sometimes I like to rationalize my Vic-20 obsession by imagining that the John Titor story is true (www.johntitor.com) so that I will someday be able to go back in a time machine to 1980 and unload all of my VIC-20 games onto the market and become a billionaire :) :) :)

If you want to make a few extra billions, make sure you name one of the games "google" and another one "ebay" before you take them back. :D

Any chance to resurrect this thread? I tried to check on the links but they're dead. I would like to try Ghislain's games, if it's still possible...

Well, thank you. I do maintain a website for my VIC-20 games here:

http://realmsofquest.blogspot.com/

Right now, the games available for download are Realms of Quest I & II Anniversary Editions, freeware version of Realms of Quest III, Theater of War and Face VS Heel.

The commercial version of Realms III is available for purchase from http://www.binaryzone.org. On side two of that release is a "SYSTEM IIII COMPLETE ANTHOLOGY 1988-2006" which presents an (almost) complete collection of my VIC-20 games and programs I had created right up to Realms III:

Realms of Quest (1991), Realms of Quest II (Unfinished Demo) (1993), Dunjon I & II (2003), Realms of Quest II (2004), Ringside Boxing (1996), Ringside Wrestling (1990), Break-Fast (1988), Dunjon Master (1990), Haunted House (1990), Ice Hockey (1996), Meteor Zone (1996), Monkey Kong (1993), Napoleon Simulator (2006), Paratrooper (1990), Vicfall! (1993), Vicfall II (1996), Vicside Boxing (2004), Worm-Out II (1990)

These are accessible from a large main menu and I also created splash screens for most of them. For example:

(more here http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bul ... &start=600 )

But you don't have to buy Realms III (with the collection on side 2) to play my other games. Somebody actually took the time and energy to upload them here:

ftp://arnold.c64.org/vic20/games/

Keep in mind that the versions of these games at arnold do not have the splash screens.

THANK YOU!

I am gonna buy REALM of QUEST III. I am an RPG fan, and I can't wait to play such a game on my real Vic. Moreover, it is so nice to buy a NEW game!
I've to wait the Megacart, 'cause I don't have a +32k expansion, but meanwhile, I will buy it.
In any case, thanks for the link to your old games. I wanna try them.

Thank you again, and keep up the good work!

Realms III does need 32K of memory. But if you have a 16K cartridge, you can still play a version of Realms III that just includes the dungeon crawling elements. That version is actually called "Realms of Quest III: Dunjon Crawler". It's actually a separate adventure, and players can transfer their saved games between the 32K and 16K versions.

And if you don't have any memory expansion at all, then my entire collection of games (that I had done up to 2009 when Realms III was released) is included on side two, and these don't need any memory expansion.

But since then, I've made updates to Realms I and II, the anniversary editions that can be downloaded from my site. I think they're far better versions.

It is pretty cool to buy new games for the VIC-20. Considering that Realms III is pretty expensive (mostly because of the cost printing the 36 page manual), I wanted to include a lot of bonus games. And I figured that I should organize my creations into a single collection, and so I took the opportunity to do so.
