Here is a blog bashing our beloved 8-bitters:

http://commodore64crap.wordpress.com/20 ... modore-64/

And if that's not disturbingly funny enough, here's a blog coming to the defense of our beloved 8-bitters:

I can't help but smile :-)

This is like when they find an old mad man on an isolated island thinking the vietnam war still is on.

That was a somewhat amusing read but also sad. This person obviously has personal issues.

Heh, the guy writing the article forgot that William Shatner also did advertisements for the Commodore PET.

The guy bitches that the VIC basic lacks graphic commands. He's one of those guys that wants everything done for him.

Well, A vic-20 + super expander cost a fraction of a c64. Super expander had the same price as an 8K ram expansion or a little less than a tape drive:

I guess one of the ideas with the vic-20 was that you could start off really inexpensive and add more things later on if you liked.

This reminds me of a similar Italian blog that's been online for years now, comparing the C64 (and to a lesser extent the VIC-20) to the ZX Spectrum, all to the good of the Sinclair computer of course :? .

If you want to have fun, here's the link to an English version of it.

I don't see the point in these discussions in 2013.

I remember having arguments with friends who had the spectrum:

- my spectrum has better games!
- yes but as long as it doesn't fry!

But - we were 10 or something.

Hey, what you're saying, Spectrum's games are no better than ours! :P

Honestly? There's no real point but they can at least be entertaining and, if done right, can be pretty educational as well; of course, this particular situation isn't one of those cases but in the past i've learnt a huge amount about 8-bit computers from similar discussions across the internet and even tried to set up an online forum dedicated to that sort of discussion to take them away from the format-specific sites (it didn't work, but that's a long story in itself).

i'm certainly not taking what i'm doing in my blog seriously as such and don't expect anyone else to either (although i noticed quite a few footprints in the traffic logs coming from here =-) but it's a good chance to practice an alternative writing style and occasionally delve around in 8-bits i haven't looked at too much to date so, again, it's proving educational for me.

I completely agree with your point of view, in fact my question was about the Italian site I linked, in which the sport is to bash the "adversary" with no real arguments (from which I would have learned, if there were any). This attitude replicates discussions we had in the mid-Eighties, when the ZX Spectrum was literally hated and not really known or respected for the features it had - and it was the same for C64 on the opposite site.

This read as tongue-in-cheek to me. I think the guy is just having a little fun.
