Disk drive

Hi everyone

I picked up a Commodore VIC-1541 disk drive and set of paddles at a flea market today.

I know absolutely nothing about using disk drives with a Vic 20 - is it possible to connect a 1541 drive to a Vic 20?

The drive I got came with a lead for connecting to a C64. Would this be suitable, or will I need a different one?

If anyone knows of any good websites that cover this subject, I'd be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

The same seller also had 6x C64s (!) and a Commodore monitor - unfortunately I can't remember the model number, but the manual stated that it was suitable for use with C64, C128 and Amiga, so I think it will have been a mid 80s model. I was wondering, might it be possible to use this with a Vic? If so, I might look out for it again next weekend. Again, any advice here would be much appreciated.

Yup, Vic-20 will work with 1540, 1541, 1571 drives.

The monitor will also be suitable, given that it has composite video input as well as RGB (Amiga). I don't think there was any monitor that takes separated video (two leads + audio lead) without a toggle button for composite video (one lead + audio lead).

You may however need to supply your own video cable, if the one that comes with the monitor (if any at all) is the 8-pin, three lead separate video version for C64.

The 1541 will work, and the lead is also the same...

I'll try out the drive later this week, and will also look out for that monitor again next weekend.
