Microwafer drive

Post by flicky »

Has anyone seen this on eBay?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... RK:MEWA:IT

I just realised that I had the exact same item in my pile of trade items, except that the box I have calls it "Quick Data Drive for the Commodore 64" - no mention of the Vic 20. However, when I looked at the instructions, it says that it is compatible with the Vic, and automatically detects which of the 2 it is attached to.

Does anyone know anything about these? Are they reliable? I don't have a disc drive for my Vic 20, so I was wondering if one of these would be worth using instead - how do they compare?

Any advice much appreciated :)

Cheers

No idea. I know the Sinclair Micro drives could be monsters at the time.

I suppose the wafers are not compatible with some other system, i.e. Sinclairs? Since C= peripherals are "intelligent", this one must also have its own OS to handle at least load, save. Does it simulate any of the more common disk commands like rename, format, directory etc? It probably has novelty (and c12y) value, but I suppose custom disk loaders would not work well on the wafer tape?
