VIC serial number registry
Hi all,
during the last few months I have been working on a site with the goal to create a good (I hope) online serial number registry for our beloved VICs.
I have just uploaded the site and database, and I have tested it by registering and adding some of my VICs. I'll be adding more later or tomorrow.
The registry is interactive, so you can click on any data to get all the similar VICs (e.g. same label, same keyboard, all the VICs made in Germany, and so on).
The more VICs, the better: I plan to add a "statistics" page with some graphs when there will be more computers in the database.
You need to register to add a VIC to the registry, but it's just a matter of choosing a username and a password. This way you can maintain and watch a list of all your VICs.
Consider it still in beta: registry should be ok but other sections are incomplete - for example you can register but you can't change your password or edit your name.
The goal of the registry is to analyse all the data and deduce some information: e. g. x% of the VICs were made in Germany, x% had the PET keyboard, and so on. Of course this kind of data is useful if we reach a good number of records in the database. As I said, everyone will be able to see this data just by clicking an element on the table.
I hope that you like it and find it useful... take a look and let me know what you think about it!
Suggestions are welcome.

Re: VIC serial number registry
I've put mine in
There's a C64 one that I put my C64s in a few years ago (http://c64preservation.com/dp.php?pg=registry). I think I looked for a Vic-20 one at the time.
I'm not sure if there's an Amiga one, but if these is I might have done that, too.

Re: VIC serial number registry
Hi , have not opened up my timeworn vic 20 ... but the serial is the following : WG B 4230
- I figure this is a very early German model.
- The build quality is really good ... better than c64 by far.

Don't be lazy, add it to the registry!
Re: VIC serial number registry
Great work! I have started by adding one. Will add the rest of my stock later.
It would be nice if we could add other Vic-20's as well (and not be listed as owner)?

Re: VIC serial number registry
I thought about that, in fact I have saved a few pictures of eBay VICs and I have them in my local version of the database. I guess this is what you were thinking... or not?Kakemoms wrote:It would be nice if we could add other Vic-20's as well (and not be listed as owner)?
My doubt was that most of the times you can't get all the information from the pictures. The date code for example isn't required, but it is very useful when analysing data.
So the question narrows down to: should the registry mostly be a serial number database or should it be a more complete source of data?
Thoughts?

Edit would be nice, in case you get it a bit wrong - like I did!

I will add edit in the future; in the meantime just tell me what to correct and I will do it :-)vicist wrote:Edit would be nice, in case you get it a bit wrong - like I did!

Re: VIC serial number registry
Hi Jogi,
I was thinking about the easiest way to add the VICs in your list to the registry (at least your VICs).
If you have a txt/csv/excel/etc file I could import it.
But some information is missing (motherboard, case type and optional date code) and the "c64" keyboard doesn't tell if the function keys are mustard or grey.
Could you add the missing information on your list? I see that you have dozens of VICs so I know it will take some time.
Let me know if I can help you in any way.
Thanks!
