Sega GameGear

Post by Ratamnim »

I know this is a a commodore site but i still like to play on the much under-rated Sega Gamegear
I brought it just after release here in the Uk it knock the socks off of gameboy which to memory was the only other Hand-held available at the time due to it's colour screen and much better graphics....
It was even better than the first gameboy advance that hit the market....
It was just a shame that Sega lost out on the console market to Nes as to me they were much better......

Systems i've got at home here....

Vic 20 + loads of bits
Spectrum ZX81]
Couple of Sega game Systems
About 4 Nes
A super Nes
Sega GameGear
Gameboys
Gameboy Advance (first and second edition)
Playstation
Playstation 2
Gamecube
X-Box
Oh and not forgetting me PC P4 3.2 Totally set for on-line gaming on a 3gb Broadband...

ummmm Gaming Addict I think's

I will admit most of the older systems are packed away......

There was also the Atari Lynx. Which was much better than the gamegear (IMO) But I was an Atari fanboy at the time.

Both Lynx and GameGear suffered with battery problems. The colour backlit screen just killed them. They were too advanced for the time I think.

That's pretty much it, the battery life. And the selection of games on the GB was far wider and greater than either of the other two machines. Sure there was crap, but when you had RC Pro Am, Super Mario Land, Zelda, Metroid II and many other early titles to play with... and the killer ap to almost end all killer aps: Tetris.
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

I just added a gamegear emulator to my Gamboy SP (with flash card). I love Baku Baku. And Gunstar Heroes is impressive when compared to the 16-bit version. The gamegear is fun but the library seems small.

Another thing about the game gear is that you can run most of the vic20 games on it as long as you've go the adaptor that fits into the back of it...

Hey presto a PVIC20

The Turbo Express had a TV tuner also.

Also Turbo Express/Grafx related, Neutopia was one of the best Zelda rip-offs of all time. :D
