Assuming you installed GameBase and unzipped the GameBase20 archive:
Unzip the Vic20_v02.zip to reveal two folders, "Program Files" and "Vic20_v02". Ignore the "Program Files" folder -- it is just a directory hierarchy which is already duplicated in Vic20_v02.
Unzip Vic20_v02 into the directory where GameBase was installed, i.e., on my Vista64 system that is "C:\Program Files (x86)\GameBase", so the end result is that there should be a folder named "C:\Program Files (x86)\GameBase\Vic20_v02". This is all the necessary front-end catalog data to run xvic.
Unzip the VIC20 content (extras, games, and screenshots) anywhere that is convenient for you. I have an extra disk drive for this kind of stuff, so I unzipped then in T:\Commodore\VIC20\GB20
Run GameBase. I forget what's next, I believe the GB program will prompt for the Script to use, emulator to use, and file paths to the content. I'll try to get a screenshot of what's next posted here.
Also, I have found that if you want to use the latest VICE 2.2 with this, the Scripts\WinVICE.txt file requires modification. All of the entries that have Add_CLP( -joydev2 ... must be commented out by inserting a semicolon (;) before it.

Jeff these are the steps I took if it helps
Install Gamebase (I had it previously installed)
Download the Vic20 Gamebase v2
Unzip the package to gamebase folder on desktop or another folder
Unzip extras to folder extras in the gamebase folder
Unzip games to folder games in the gamebase folder
Unzip screenshots to folder screenshots in the gamebase folder
Unzip winvice-2.1 to folder winvice-2.1 in the gamebase folder
Unzip Vic20_v2 to folder in the gamebase folder - you should get 2 folders
1. program files - seems to be redundant
2. Vic20_v02
Copy the whole Vic20_v02 folder to c:\program files\gamebase
Start Gamebase - you should see a Vic20_V02 label under a Commodore logo - double click this
Go to tools menu and set paths to the directories for Games, Extras, screenshots
Go to the Gemus menu and select Emulator set up wizard
Start
Select Vic 20
Navigate to the folder with winvice in my case c:\users\ian\desktop\gamebase\winvice-2.1
This should pick up winvice 2.1 and then confirm.
After this all should be working.
Just used it to play ten ten for the first time - excellent puzzler, really nice.
Hope you had a great Christmas and Best Wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2010.

Ok, I finally got it to work. But I still have two problems. The screenshots seem to be far too small in the program. The look good as saved to folder, but the program crunches them so much that I cannot make out the image.
The big problem is that I can't play any of the games in VICE because memory setting are always wrong. It crashed every one I tried.

Pictures: right-click on the picture to open the context menu for the zoom function. Unfortunatly there seems to be no way to display the pictures larger as a pre-set.Jeff-20 wrote:Ok, I finally got it to work. But I still have two problems. The Gamebase program should take care of the memory settings automatically. I've installed the program on two computers now without any problem. Did you use the Emulator Wizard to set up the program? If I were you I would try to make a fresh clean install of WinVice 2.1 somewhere and connect it to the Gamebase via the Wizard. Worked for me without any problem.
Greetings, Folko

If you look into the View tab, you can choose None, Small or Full pictures, but I'll admit, even the full is a little cramped for the Vic's resolution width.
The setup DOES NOT officially support Vice 2.2 yet either, only up to 2.1.

Lie with passion and be forever damned...
Thanks. It seems to work. I have question about setting paths to cover/tap directorys (extras). Do I have to set path to every subdirectory under those two?

Ok. Extras button seems to work too. But I was first thinking that it would show cover at Gamebase program like screenshot does.
I wish screenshot was bigger when you have program at full screen. But I noticed that you can click it bigger. Anyway there would be lot freespace show pic bigger at first place. Or show covers.
