Just an idea this but given the fact that most of us now have at least 24k upgrades on our vic's and the megacarts ordered I think some classic c64 games could be converted to the vic20
some examples that come to mind
Bruce Lee
BombJack
Joe Blade
I'm not a programmer but given the fact that people are very keen an gauntlet could these see the light of day on the vic??
More games of any sort would be welcome but if I had to pick one 64 game I would love to see on the VIC-20 I'd go with one of my all time favourites, Montezuma's Revenge.
I've played the game to death on the 64 (the screenshots are from that version), the Colecovision, the Atari 5200 and the Sega Master System so I can't really explain why I want a VIC-20 version. It would be neat to see though and I'm sure the VIC-20 could handle it given that there's an Atari 2600 version. Such an awesome game.
BTW, have you guys tried out Victragic's wicked conversion of Frogger?
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.
From a programmer's point of view, there are far more challenging tasks than the amount of memory available. Certainly it will set a limit, but for some of the games you mention other limitations come into play earlier.
Now with the help of rhurst's software sprite library, perhaps more games can be made available. In many cases it is the smooth, sprite like movement you really want to achieve and what has put off many projects.
Don't hold your breath though. Even a more primitive type of game tends to take a lot of effort and time to develop. While I'm sure some people will love to get inspiration and suggestions, there is a reason the AtariAge forum has a sticky topic "To All Non-Programmer Idea Peddlers".

I appreciate all of the above...but I can still dream... I'd love to see a conversion of Kikstart C16. TMR ported it to the C64 and it was pretty cool...now I want to play it on my favourite computer.

Well when I started this thread I only had one game in mind at the time and that was Bruce Lee
The game is quite short and it isn't pushing the c64 to the limits that's why I thought it would be a good start for the vic20
Being a fanatic for classic text adventures, I revive here the idea to port the Frotz interpreter to the VIC - it would be great to play Zork on it (even if probably spliced into separately loaded parts).

Seconded! I think this is one of the more realistic nominations, too - in terms of actually being possible.
Add "alike" to all your suggestions and I think projects are more likely to take place. We've had similar topics in Games before (not sure why this one yet lives in Programming, perhaps because we're lazy mods). There are a lot of great game concepts, both old classics and brand new ideas that ought to be implemented even if the goal is not to make a perfect port of an older game.
It can become the second step of a process: first make a game that resembles Bruce Lee, Bomb Jack or Super Mario Bros. Then look into what it would take to get it to look and play as closely to the original as possible.
It was a popular early C64 title that doesn't have complicated or quickly moving graphics (the graphics don't move for 90% of the game). So I would think it could be ported without a great deal of trouble.
I like VICuser's suggestion of Utopia. These graphical land managmenet games aren't too common for the VIC.
I would love to see some of the PC Roguelikes ported to the Vic. They tend to be ASCII and turn based so I presume the biggest resource limit would be memory rather than CPU speed for these types of games. A personal favourite at the minute is DooM-RL, a Roguelike based in the world of DooM - gotta love it!

H.E.R.O. from Activision (C64), was my favourite game in C64 and the program was only 8k long, but in pure MC with sixteen or seventeen levels multi-screen with new monsters in each level
