some keys dont respond well

Post by terry »

I still have my Vic-20 my Dad bought for me and my brother in 1982,
there are some keys that when youre typing will barely respond when being "typed", have to tap the key harder to get any results.

I havent tapped very much I know this would not be good for the keys etc, on the keyboard PCB itself I looked at it and there are pits and the contact (on PCB) on these keys are really worn, could I possibly build this up with solder to fill the marks or pits. Also replace the contacts on the stems if they are worn I know this because I had to replace a few stem contacts on my 128D keyboard, and then it worked okay. Yes I had the keyboard apart and saw the worn PCB contacts (keyboard Pcb).

Only the PCB contacts are really worn out, I could find a replacement keyboard that isnt worn as bad I guess.

Any other suggestions or would the soldering the contacts work at all?

There are different types of VIC keyboard so this solution may not apply to yours.

Generally, internally, the VIC uses little rubber pads to touch the board.

terry,

If you want, PM me with your address, and I will send you
a vic-20 replacement keyboard. I have plenty of spares.

Happy New Year!
