PAL CR VIC-20 With Dot Crawl & Ringing

Hey all,

I've got a PAL, cost-reduced (made in England) VIC-20 that suffers from what I suspected to be dot crawl and after browsing through the forum, this suspicion has been confirmed, along with "ringing." The severity varies according to the colours involved.

For example, this looks okay beyond the edge ringing.



However, as you can see below, some colours are affected whilst others are not (yellow and white).




If you can advise me on how to remedy or at least reduce the issue, I'd really appreciate it. I'm pretty confident with a desoldering gun and can easily replace caps etc during through-hole work. Thanks!

The first step should always be the S-Video mod. Most likely this will "fix" the issue.

Thanks, I'll look into this. It seems fairly straightforward.

I did have an issue with one of my Vic20s black screen so I orded a new Vic chip on ebay,and fitted the chip and a new kernal and the picture was amazing with the new chip, just goes to show that each chip is differant.
