Re: Atari Paddles on Commodore?
Is the expected lower range on paddles the same on all Commodore 8-bit machines that support them, or just the VIC 20?

Re: PAL Mod on Rev 1 NTSC VIC 20?
I would like to exchange my working fully equipped PAL board for NTSC board. If you're serious about this I'll consider it. I have to get my NTSC board working first - the VIC 20 was recovered from a cat-infested location. What revision of PAL board are you considering swapping? If it's a Rev 2 boa...

Re: VIC20 and bad characters
That does look like a bad or even missing character ROM. The apparently changing characters even suggests a lot of those data lines are floating (hovering between low and high). I'm starting a Rev 1 VIC board repair so I might try removing the character ROM and seeing if it does something like this....

PAL Mod on Rev 1 NTSC VIC 20?
I read that the Revision 1 VIC 20s have separate NTSC and PAL versions, with the PAL ones sporting extra traces on the board. The Revision 2 boards were more harmonized so it was possible to have either video standard on them depending on the crystal and 6560 / 6561 IC used. I only have spare Rev 1 ...

WTB: VIC 20 CR boards, ICs optional
I have three VIC 20s, two of which are dead. One is a CR version that I performed the S-Video modification to, and it stopped outputting video during a county fair that was rather warm and humid. Possibly the stock power supply killed it. The second is an older version that uses the 9VAC power suppl...

Re: Video noise on VIC-20
I am confused. I am also highly hung over and drinking again so who knows ... I think this is from having two different people experiencing nearly identical video issues with third-party power supplies. The one I have is this: C64 PSU Modern Black US - Replacement Commodore 64 Power Supply, US Plug...

Re: Video noise on VIC-20
The power supply I got had a ground pin on it, but it might not be connected to anything at the VIC 20 end

Re: Video noise on VIC-20
I would be inclined to test with the original PSU briefly after checking the voltage with a meter of course. Just did the re-cap R10 adjustments and tested the stock power supply. The PSU is part number is 251052-01, which wasn't on the Wiki for some reason. Fortunately the voltages checked out - t...

Yes please do this
This dramatically affected my luminance output, where it solidified the cyan border after replacing all capacitors and doing the S-Video modification.

Re: Video noise on VIC-20
I just did, and I get a very clean picture this time. I haven't done the re-cap R10 adjustments yet, and was about to.
So what is this after-market brick doing, I wonder.

Re: Video noise on VIC-20
I have a very similar problem, even in S-Video. https://i.imgur.com/blKNGUG.png I'm using an after-market power supply too, as I didn't trust the epoxy brick that came with this machine. I also re-capped it using a Console5 recap kit. If it's the after-market PSU doing this, any suggestions? I suppo...
