Are you kidding? I am sitting on a stack of 'em right now. What language, country, year, etc. are you interested in? because there were plenty. Including the most recent, Denial Newsletter (smile). Anyone remember that?

I have seen loads of C64 magazines, but not really Vic20 magazine.

First homecomputer magazine 'MikroBitti' started at Finland -84.. First magazines had some Vic20 stuff, but it was soon only C64 stuff..

It would be fun read old magazine renews of classic games like Jupiter Lander, Gorf, Sargon II Chess, Omega Race etc..

I have never seen Vic20 magazine.

Swedish fan-based magazine VIC-NEWS, later renamed VIC-rapport started before the C64 was released, thus only containing VIC-20 material in the first one or two years. I suppose most Commodore-oriented publications would be like this; either they were pioneers or jumped on the bandwagon at a later moment when the industry had proven it was here to stay.

Also, pioneering magazines were more likely to be brand independent to reach as many readers as possible. Of course you will see VIC-20 reviews etc in those too, but not exclusively VIC-20.

There was Vic Computing here in the UK (before it became Commodore User). I've got a few issues of it on the way to me so I can see what's in there.

Your Commodore had the odd Vic-20 game in their reviews section.

Of course, COMPUTE! and maybe even more COMPUTE!'s Gazette held VIC content until at least late 1984, but exactly how much was reviews or exclusively VIC-20 stuff, I dunno. IIRC they started with PET stuff, so old issues (prior to the C64 release) should have the VIC in the first room.

On the other hand, I don't know how many fanzines, diskmags etc were around, and most importantly post-1985. Apart from some special purpose applications like that music sync, ham radio, maybe industrial or robot control, it appears to me that the VIC was ice cold from 1985 to 1992, when some disk mags (Rockford) start to appear. With help of the Internet, both old fans and progressive programmers  got to bring the interest back to some levels of dignity. During what years was/is the Denial newsletter active for example?

I remember walking around Wood Green shopping centre and begging my mum to buy me a mag with a listing for the Vic in it. I think I got it, because I remember thinking how great it'd be based on the drawings on the page.

From the illustrations, you would have thought that the games would be amazing - They always ended up being poor, if they worked in the end (usually not!).

I think more time and money was spent on art work than on programming for some of those games.

iirc, Mattel hired a ton of college people to program their Intellivision games, so i wonder if they got people from an arts college to do the artwork?

i just love those Intellivision boxes!
