Commodore Satan's Hollow

Post by rhurst »

I was reading Commodore Power Play magazine (thanks to the bitorrent link provided at Bombjack's web site) and saw an ad for Commodore Satan's Hollow -- a favorite play of mine at the arcade. I never knew they made one -- wow, I would have dropped $$ then for a copy of that game.

I was very pleased that it booted under VICE and plays as a remarkable clone. I found the theme of that shoot'em game very enticing -- the castle on the mountain, with darkness falling from stage to stage, the choice to bridge-build to Satan's Hollow, and the one-on-one scenarios with Satan or a demon. The regenerative shield makes the game play fairly as the pace of the game gets more and more frenetic.

Anyways, it made for a delightful surprise for me today to find that treasure. I think I will transfer its D64 image to a real floppy for one of those long winter nights ahead when I fire up the old C64 on a TV. :D

I've got an original of it here, but it is quite hard to find and does command a decent price on eBay. Seems to be the trend for a fair few of Commodore's own releases on disk; the cartridges by comparison are a lot more common in general.

One of my all-time favorite mindless shoot-em-ups because of its variations, and its increase in speed and difficulty. The first time you hit "THAT" level and the real s**tstorm begins, is one of the all time "WTF?!" moments in classic gaming. If my 1541 wasn't out of alignment, I'd go play it right now.
