I'm still sure I played #1 as late as last year. Gawd, it looks so familiar but yet isn't one of those Skramble versions.

I know I've seen that first game with the purple ship before. I have a feeling it just had a generic Scramble clone name like "SKRAMBLE" or something. I'll have to check my disks.

Not to be mistaken for one of the following:

SKRAMBLE

FIRE GALAXY

They can be downloaded (together with many excellent games) here.

Yeah there's quite a few games called "Scramble" or "Skramble" and the similar, but none of those match.

I tried to access Arma's TAPs through the Wayback Machine, as his own site is down since a while. However the Internet Archive only seems to archive material directly included on a web page, not downloadable content off a link. Thus all his screenshots are unavailable. I believe 6502dude was granted a backup, perhaps just the screenshot section could be uploaded. Or does there exist a browseable version of the GameBase with images, in case this game appears in several places?

Hey, it is a game for vic +8K or unexpanded vics ?

In the first case maybe VOYAGER by LYVERSOFT that i've found on Ebay.

I've asked the seller to post me a picture in action from the monitor so we can be sure.

I found this game on one of my home-made VIC-20 disks.

On that disk it is called "COBRA".

However, I cannot say if this is the original name of the game or a name someone gave it later on when pirating it - you know how names got changed as games were transferred from person to person.

Ral-Clan's comment about Cobra made me search. Indeed there was a Cobra on Arma's site which no longer is available. Further research lead me to a web page where the author says he used to play Super Cobra on his VIC-20, but that game turned out to be Bomber. The latter can be found on Zimmers (unexpanded games) and looks like this:

Not a 100% match, but close enough to tell that the Bomber version on Zimmers is a refined version of the game Mayhem asked about.

I've not got that version of Bomber listed in GB20 either. I figure someone is gonna have to go through Zimmer and find out what hasn't been added to the database at some point in the future to fill these sorts of holes.

I've received pictures of Voyager from the seller but it is not the game that you are searching for.

If the game was a "rough" version of this more refined game, as the similarity in colors and in several other particulars seems to suggest, I think there is small probability to find it online.

On the other side, nothing indicates that it was commercial software (no credits, or copyright). So, "cobra" possibly IS the original name.

Funet description for "bomber" is
Fly over terrain and shoot things up. Use the joystick fire button to drop bombs and press SHIFT LOCK to activate the automatic guns. Watch out for the rockets and shoot fuel tanks to refuel. Custom-character graphics.
Maybe it was some sort of type-in? Ral-clan, your "Cobra" game shows a title screen with credits?

No, it just starts up automatically into the game.

I suspect it was just some small company back in the 80s taking an already published game (i.e. Bomber) and hacking the graphics so they could release it as their own.

Or it was the other way around: an Public Domain game called Cobra, and someone refined the graphics and sold it as Bomber.

I do prefer the "rough" one. It's so... Voyager :P

Ral-clan, any chance to put it on a d64? 8)
