Anyone recognise these two?

Post by Mayhem »

Got two games I'm processing and they have no titles... does anyone recognise them so I can give them a name?

The first looks like a hacked Skramble? It looks vaguely familiar.

Number two is a COMPUTE! listing.. Moving Maze by Matt Giwer (October 1983). Actually Matt wrote the original Atari 8-bit version, and it was converted to VIC-20 by Marc Sugiyama, Programming Assistant.
VIC Notes
The VIC version of "Moving Maze" (Program 2) uses the same game layout as the Atari version, but the rules of the game have been changed. Whenever you run into a wall or the Rover, you are sent back to the beginning of the maze, without exception. You maneuver through the maze using the I, J, K and M keys or a joystick. Pressing the space bar or the fire button on the joystick causes the maze to speed up, but you lose one point every time the maze moves. You cannot move while the joystick button or the space bar is depressed. When you complete a maze, another will appear, but the openings in the walls will be smaller. The game ends when you lose all five lives.

Moving Maze uses up almost all of the memory of an unexpanded VIC, so do not enter any extra spaces or REMs. Also, the program will not handle VIC's floating memory, so remove any expansion memory cartridges.
There, at least 1/2 solved. :D

Ah, moving maze. I remember that. I loved when games could be that simple. My goal is to create the ultimate type-in style game.

Cheers Carlsson... I imagine there's quite a few more Compute listings here in GB20 without credit so far, hopefully when things are released people can fill in some gaps for me :)

Did you check the image with a hexeditor for 'hidden' clues to it's name/title?

Arma, were are you? I'm quite certain #1 can be found among his in-game screenshots and thus locate the name of the game. As I wrote above, something Skramble.

Just a bump in case anyone has any other further thoughts. The first game certainly doesn't match anything I currently have in GB20 to my knowledge.

Actually that's a good point... somehow I failed to spot it was already in there, but there's over 1,300 games listed, so I figure I can cut myself some slack ;)

The start of each program is slightly different, anyone got the original listing somewhere for me to compare which is the "correct" true one?

You mean the listing for Moving Maze, which some funny person has renamed as Death Maze? Sure, I can scan the listing or part of it.

That would be handy Carlsson... just so I know which listing I have is the correct one for Moving Maze as per publication :)
