Of course! I'm planning to start next week.pitcalco wrote:Tsm, Joshua: Let me know how your repair efforts are coming along. It would be great if you could breathe new life into those things.

Hello!
At last I had the chance of peeking into the drive. There was a small iron "button", 3 - 4 mm in diameter, stuck to the spinner motor's magnet. That's the reason of the ugly noise. I pulled it out but I think the copper traces got eaten by the button scraping on them in the rotation. I'm talking about the mech's PCB here.
I'm having a break now. I'll share any news or progress.

You're a better man than I, TSM.
Good detective work. Keep me posted.

The mech seems to work perfectly! Apparently, removing the foreign body was all that was needed.
I don't know about the logic board but I think it should work, judging by the LEDs' behavior when I first turned the drive on. I wanted to install the switching PSU from my mech-less 1571 in your drive, but it wouldn't fit. It barely fits in the drive it was shipped with, as well. To sum it up, I ended up installing the mech from your drive in mine, although mine is quite yellow and scratched. But I don't trust linear PSU's at all. In the process, I also put JiffyDOS in.
Thank you pitcalco for your time, the drive and the fun!

Excellent work on your part, TSM!
I am glad to see that you got it working again.
Enjoy your drive.
