Normally this should make no difference, but have you tried STOP/RESTORE between loading the program from disk and the issuing the OPEN/CMD/LIST combo to print?

I also tend to write the commands in one line, i.e. OPEN3,4:CMD3:LIST and close the channel to the printer with PRINT#3:CLOSE3. The PRINT# commands cleanly restores output to screen and flushes the character buffer inside the printer, before the channel is closed.

If that doesn't help, try exchanging the two cables between computer and drive, and drive and printer. Otherwise we'll have the opportunity to take a look into this in September.

Thank you very much Mike, I tried with the STOP/RESTORE plus the one-line series of commands, and it worked well. Now anyone willing to type in the BASIC games can ask me a paper copy of the listings, complete with the infamous obscure special characters... very old school . Also, thanks for the suggested PRINT#3. I read in the manual that's a "cleaner" way to close the printer work.

Adorable! You have to start them young on a proper Commodore training.

She really seems to be interested more in the VIC than in the modern desktop PC which is in the same room. The latter has a picture of her as a wallpaper: she points the finger at the screen, screams "here's Emma!", then she wants to climb the chair in front of the VIC and asks "may I work with this?" (work, not play!).

The 1311 joystick is a nice touch; not everyone goes for the totally authentic approach.

They're not easy to come by these days are they? They weren't very robust, I know I broke at least two in the old days...

I'm happy with an "everything Commodore" setup for aesthetic reasons, and for a kind of collector's mania. Nevertheless, I use the joystick to play arcade games both with the VIC and the C64, not going very soft with it. I know the 1311 is considered to be weak, so I bought two more, but never used them. This is my first joystick in almost 8 years of retrocomputing, and never broke. Maybe I'm lucky, or it's because I prefer strategy and adventures .

If you take your time, you can get one at auction quite cheaply because it's more or less common knowledge that they weren't very good.

Yeah, now that's what I call being a perfectionist in re-enactment!

But what about the TV set? Are you going to add a generic CRT TV, or a Commodore monitor?

I was wondering if a CRT TV set would be more "hard core reenactment", as I suppose that most of us connected the VIC to the family's TV back in the days (mine was black & white, also). But of course an original monitor looks better from an aesthetic standpoint.

As already said, the original Commodore joystick definitely is hard core reenactment. I perfectly remember a school mate breaking one in two pieces at a common friend's house while performing a 100 mt hurdles at Decathlon (or a similar game).
