VIC 20 hardware mods

A friend of mine got two VICs in today, both with inside mods, I wonder if anyone can tell me whats going on here?

And heres the second VIC, friend is a bit dubious about turning this one on! Note the two EPROM's btw

A: A little speaker which plays the sound of the cassette probably.

B: A repaired vic-20 with the power regulator replaced with a new one. Extra shielding around the board to prevent from radio interference? You should put something on those eproms to completely cover the windows or they will be erased!

First is black screen, the second has been upped to 3A and displays "Hi Rik!" on boot!
