Oh man, this is a megaton announcement if ever there was one. Wizard of Wor, on the VIC-20! A game I've been dying to play for over thirty years. If anyone gets this, please please please dump it for the rest of us to enjoy!

The ROM chip reads: MOS 325338-01 8-43 3142
At least the 325338-01 puts it somewhere in the range of other ROMs for VIC-20 cartridges (I checked against a MOS chip list). The other figures form no discernible date code, though. In any case, the solder blobs put the ROM into BLK2 and BLK3, so this cartridge won't autostart.
The seller is registered here on Denial, so he might comment on this auction as well.

The news was met with similar skepticism on AtariAge, which is unfortunate. Nevertheless, the auction's already up to forty dollars with no signs of stopping. I'm really hoping it turns out to be legit... I've been waiting FOREVER for this one.
If the game won't autostart when inserted into a VIC-20, how would you make it function? Would a SYS call do the trick?

How about we agree a group buy here?
If we agree it is worth a punt then we could join forces to coordinate one bid for Denial to dump it.
This could stop overinflated bidding with the risk of it being fake.
Thoughts on max value?
I will bid, anyone want to join / support?
After it is won and dumped it can be resold to someone in Denial community.
Dump will be released to those who donate first plus Jeff and any Denial sponsors who support Jeff

Mike - what other carts are built this way? Scott Adams? Any others?
My thoughts on it being a rom vs eprom are that it could have been a quick run of copies for debug playtesting.
The label could have been added by a later collector.
Worth a go?

Not really that clever and a bit transparent if everyone did this.
I have bought some items untested and been pleasantly surprised.
I am bidding for it, anyone want to join me and share the risk and the anticipation of being the first to play this in some years?
Or shall I just put it in a picture frame and wonder at it

I wish you the best of luck with this. I don't have my hopes up; apparently the guy running the auction has toyed with VIC-20 fans in the past, claiming to have a prototype but providing little in the way of evidence.
If you win, at least test it and get back to us with your findings. If it plays Wizard of Wor, show us proof! If it's really just an old copy of Adventureland, we'll provide you with torches and pitchforks so you can storm this scammer's house.

I guess he is following this thread and learning what to do for his next object:Mike wrote:The seller is registered here on Denial, so he might comment on this auction as well.

If memory serves, the seller owns a Mega-Cart and presumably also owns a VIC-20 so I would have thought testing the item would have been as simple as removing the MC from the expansion port and putting the prototype in there instead. Or am I missing something?joshuadenmark wrote:Sold as untestet always equal "piece of non working crap"...
