Hi Eslapion,

I would also be interested in one of these if you could help me confirm this is a cure for the failure on my Vic.

I have missing 36874 and 36876 channels of sound 36876 and 36877 work fine.

Can the Vic chip fail this way or is it likely to be something else?

I have reseated the chip but have no spare to check it with.

Please PM if you have a spare. Thanks.

Mike is the expert with troubleshooting this kind of problems.

I cannot confirm or deny the problem to be with the 6560.

Eslapion also sells heat-sinks that fit on this type of chip. I would purchase one and use it if you get a new VIC chip.

Vic20-Ian

I am guessing but because of your location you have a PAL VIC20 the 6560 is the NTSC version of the chip and what you need is 6561 which is the PAL version.
I'll take my cart to go thank you ;)

6561 hard to find

Post by andorvic »

Hello.

I need a 6561, too, and it's very difficult to find it. I'm waiting an answer in other post about it. If I find it, I will notify you where is possible to find it.

Bye.

I'm almost envisioning all of us wearing Vic 20 tights in a squared circle fighting over the last Vic chip. LOL.

Another solution to replace VIC?

Post by andorvic »

Hello.
I have some Sinclair ZX81 and the problem to find its ULA (that is something to the VIC) is the the same.
But there are a group of people who has created a little circuit to replace it and it works.
Do you think that something similar is possible whit the VIC chip?
I have examined the VIC II from the commodore 64 and perhaps it has enough to, adapting it, replace the VIC on th VIC20.

I'm sure that could be a lot of possible solutions. What do you think about this?
