I recall buying a replacement power supply from Commodore(I think...?), and they were sold as interchangeable. Really makes me wonder if they even cared.

It was the same when you wanted to change the 1541 drive number. They never told you the jumpers weren't cables and which jumpers to cut. They never even made it clear where the jumpers were.
