menu Snapshot -> Record Sound, then Stop sound Record will give you a .WAV file, which you'll need to convert next.

Sounds like a good idea but don't be fooled! As simple as the Vic's sound is, there are some sound demos out there which exploit the hardware quirks to point where unique waveforms can be produced which cannot be produced on VICE. Have a look at the Robot Warriror demo and you'll see (hear) what I mean.. if you have a real Vic to compare it against that is.orion70 wrote:Is there a way to record a wav file from VICE and then convert it to mp3? If so, every VIC tune could be played in the iPOD.
I'm going to add Vic sound support to my tracker but I have to admit.. I'll only be going as far as what VICE does. Emulating transistors and the likes is not for me either.

I wouldn't let it put you off though - I haven't actually listened to many tunes on an actual Vic as yet. Most of the tunes I've listened to have been on Vice but as soon as my uIEC arrives I'll be listening to them on the real thing. I wouldn't even mind sampling a real Vic and uploading MP3's myself if there was somewhere suitable to put them.orion70 wrote:I see (well, I should say: I hear). So nothing compares to the real thing... I thought this was true only for the more complex SID sound.
I'm probably the only programmer around without a website so I'm not raising my hand there.

I think the sound is a bit different from different VIC chips as well, just as the graphics are. The sound can also get a little bit distorted (kind of like a guitar amp) when all of the voices are playing.

If you think Perils of Willy is bad.. trying playing RIP for an hour and see how long it take you to turn down the sound and put some 'normal' music on the stereo!Vic20-Ian wrote:Perils of Willy had a pretty repetitive tune as I recall...

The music from "back in the day" would never see its way onto my iPod, but the music thats been appearing in the past couple of years from the demo scene certainly would. Check out the Orbtraxx demo and you'll hear what I'm talking about. You wouldn't think it was done on the same machine as Perils of Willy
