MiniGame Compo 2009 ?
It seems Richard Bayliss no longer can access the Internet since he upgraded his PC.. so if you sent your submission to him it may have gotten lost in translation.
I haven't begun my revamp duty yet, but hopefully will get to it soon. If nothing else, you could keep your entries for an upcoming year.

Congratulations to Jeff-20 for winning the 4K MiniGame Compo!

That makes at least two Denialers compo champions, as Robin has won it so many times he would barely be allowed to participate again.

Congrats!
Yes, I think it should be on the online page, together with Go Left and some more... I'm waiting for an email Jeff

Diddl: Of course a Pong game is possible for almost any platform. Usually it will be much smaller than 4 kB too, depending on how smooth graphics you need and what the system can produce. However for a true Pong experience one often wants analog inputs. I am not sure a PET has any analog inputs but perhaps the 8-bit userport can be used to simulate at least one analog paddle? Actually four bits per player may be enough, one bit to signal direction and three bits for velocity 1..7.
If you like we can continue discussing this on the other PET forum. Of course a pair of pseudo-analog controllers to the userport may be interesting on the VIC too, if the real analog paddle input tends to be jittery?

Cool! I'm really excited about this! I almost didn't enter.
I also predicted Pong or Yars would win. They seem like greater technical achievements from a programmer's perspective and closer to past winners. I wonder if this is the first BASIC game to be entered/win.
The comments are very interesting. I'll consider them in future versions.
Why do people suspect some of the levels in Ten Ten cannot be solved? Part of what makes it a 4k game is making sure every screen has a solution. Has anyone encountered one that appears not to have a solution?
And I spent a lot of time on the graphics. Fonts and all. "Lack" implies the judge may have thought those were stock graphics. It reminds me of a childhood friend who wondered why the makers of Schindler's List didn't just invest more money to shoot the film in color.
I thought making the cursors anything more than "dots" would overcomplicate things. What should they be? Does this game need a story?
Also, I'm sure it could fit in a lot less memory. I'm just waiting for someone with skills in Objective C to help make the iphone port. :p
Thanks to everyone associated with the Mini Game Comp! It's a great honor.

Sega Mega Drive has several Pongs! Have you ever heard of Super Ping Pong?Diddl wrote:Rank 5 is cool also! A pong for Sega Mega Drive. Should be possible for a PET also!

Not sure if you're joking or not here, but you should consider finding someone to do this. This game deserves to be seen by more people, and making a few bucks off it as an app wouldn't be the worst thing ever, either.

I've got someone I'm supposed to show my next TI game to when it's finished for that same purpose. He's a friend-of-a-friend and a colleague at one of my freelance outlets, so I don't know much about him yet, but if it turns out to be a good connection I can pass it along.
(As long as he doesn't ditch my game and do yours instead.)
