I'm definitely going to have to buy a Mega-Cart so I can play this. ROQ III looks incredible. saehn is doing an outstanding job on the splash screen, and the screens for the other games add some unity to the various titles I think. Great work. I know nothing of wrestling, so I unfortunately cannot answer your "Semi-Obscure Wrestling Trivia" question. :)

Splash screen is almost finished! Upon release, we'll post screenshots of it, a full bestiary, and some in-game shots for your viewing pleasure. :-)

Thanks! I agree, the splash screens for the games on side 2 just add a little bit of extra appeal to the overall appearance of the games package.

Those are good guesses. However, the correct answers are JIM CROCKETT and RONNIE GARVIN (the latter is also a Canadian wrestler). And Jim Ross used to do play by play for NWA for Crockett promotions in the 1980s.

Thanks! Everything is coming together. Here is the splash screen for ICE HOCKEY:

Maybe I missed something. How exactly do the splash screens work? Did you modify the code of the original games? Some were
basic. Or is this stored somehow separately?

There was some extra space on side 2 of the disk (where the rest of my games are, hence why it's called "System IIII: The Complete Anthology"), so I thought that I'd put in a splash screen that is loaded before the game is.

Adds a bit of loading time, but in the context of the VIC-20, loading an 11 block splash screen only takes a few seconds. And yes, these splash screens are shown with unexpanded memory. You can go back a few pages on this thread to find out how I compress them.

...and one final splash screen (VICSIDE BOXING) :

Fitting that Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali are featured here. Although these two never actually fought each other, they were filmed in various sparring sessions in 1969 for the "Superfight" movie where a computer program would determine the victor in an Ali-Marciano dream matchup if both fought each other in their respective primes (Marciano was 46 at the time the filmed sequences were being made). Ali, being in exile (basically banned from boxing 1967-1970 for his anti-war stance) needed the money and Marciano saw this as a way to relive his past glory.

Who was the winner? Well, I won't spoil the result, but you can easily find a copy of this 'fight' on DVD on the internet somewhere.

Vicside Boxing is a simulation game where you can create dream matchups. I did enter it in the 2004 minigame competition where it was criticized but being more of a 'strategy simulation' game, most did not get what it was about.

Ah, VICside boxing! When a rough sport appeals even to die-hard fans of strategy games... :D

Splash screen is done! I'm glad that a full version is going into the game and not something that I hadn't completely finished. I'll let Ghislain be the one to "unveil" it after he works it into the code (soon). He'll also show off the full bestiary at the same time. :-)

In the meantime, here are two more monster teasers from the bestiary: the Beholder and the Kraken. Enjoy!

As per your wishes, here is your splash screen as it appears in the intro (4:3 proper aspect ratio)

And here is the full beastiary that appears in the game as well. Saehn is a genius when it comes to 8-bit artwork.

I'm very grateful for the help that saehn and darkatx have contributed to this game. Their artwork (graphics + manual) have really added a level of professional "polish" to bring it to a true commercial grade release.

So I think for all intents and purposes, the programming for Realms of Quest III is finished. I'm almost at the stage where everything is "in the can".

All that is left to do is to create "gold" editions of the D64 images, finalize the manual and email it all to Psytronik Software, which I will be doing next week.

Maybe I'm mistaken. But I think I see "nip"... column 9 row 4. Why was that the first thing my eyes went to?

Like we didn't know it already? I hooked him up to a Fairchild Channel F graphics compo and although the competition was not too tough, the official results was Saehn scored the top four places after voting.
