Introduction

Post by Vic20-Ian »

Hi all,

I just found you after a few years out of emulation. My nicname is Vic20-Ian because it was the first computer I owned. A present for my 14th Birthday 1984. Sold for a Plus 4 (mistake)

Reacquired one in the late 90's and have never looked back. I try and upgrade all new gadgets to Vic20 Capability.

My favourite games are anything by Jeff Minter but especially the sounds on Laserzone and Hellgate and Star Defence by Anirog, try it on fast speed, Probably the best Defender/Stargate clone on ANY platform. Jetpac on the Vic was the best also.

Looking for some help with a Special Cartridge from Audio Computers fitted with 8 x 6116 memory and 4 rom slots. Slot 2 has Vickit 2 installed. How do I use it?

Cheers
Vic20-Ian

Edit in response to location post : I am in The Isle of Man, just moved over here and it is great. Peaceful, kids have more room to play, I have more room to tinker with the Vic! The Vic20, C64, Disk drives and Virtual Boy were the few retro things I brought over.

This reminds me - I have some retro for sale including a CBM P500.

PM Me for details.

People still aren't filling in the location box. I'm going to guess Australia. Welcome.

Hey. I'm Phil. Hence the username. I'm so creative.

I've been elbows deep in NES garbage for like 12 years, so I'm sort of used to acquiring and caring for obsolete hardware. Actually, I think I traded my Vic 20 in for an NES way back in time. But anyway, recently, I've had an inkling in the back of my mind to get back into it, since I have such fond memories. But those memories are distant and mostly killed with beer. So I presently don't have any idea whatsoever what the hell is going on, and wouldn't even come close to knowing where to start. I'm just going to float around the forums and peep on ebay and whatnot to try to get an idea of what to expect.

That's it.

Welcome Phil!

There's a good representation of Canadians on here, where in Canada are you?

I haven't met a C-User that is rich yet (Except Mayhem here lol Jab Jab)

I thought I'd ask for the clarification in case you were another Ontario person like many of us are :)

TPUG (Toronto Pet Users Group) is still functioning and actually growing in size that you may want to come out and visit a meeting (Schema here is the man here to talk to about dates etc).

Also a few of us geeks meet up ocassionally off-site here for meets, World of Commodore in December etc...

So welcome aboard, come post often...

And since Schema is up to his ears in nappies I'll mention that the next shindig is on September 18th and it will be held here.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

Thanks for the head's up, dudes. Unfortunately, I usually start work 6 or 8 at night. As tempting as quitting my job is, I don't think I'd be able to make it out.

But it is good to know such a club exists for when I DO freak out and quit. It's only a matter of time, really. And I can still sign up ;)

There's still World of Commodore which one can call in sick for  and "Retro Nights" that go to wee hours

No excuses (unless there's a woman involved with large breasts)

Greetings y'all,
My name comes from the idea that I love RPG's and wanted a Fantasy'esque name and had a Athlon cpu at the time I thought it up.
The Vic20 was my 1st computer and mine was from the 1st batch of 12 that arrived in Milwaukee when I lived there. Totally flat keys and no color in the label. The tape was even a Pet tape machine as Commodore hadn't started making one specifically for the Vic yet.
I always thought some of it's capabilities were under-utilized like multi-colors graphics and software speech. I always held that special place in my heart.

Some welcomes are in order here.

Welcome to Athlor and MRaider; great to have two more people here who cut their teeth on a Vic 20. What great memories, and it will be fun to share them with the two of you here.

Hi there MRaider... you wouldn't happen to be the guy writing Juno First now by any chance? ;)
