Conversion of Mille Bornes card game from C64 [VIC+8k]
Hi there, here's a conversion of the popular french card game "Mille Bornes" from a Commodore 64 version published on the August issue of Compute!'s Gazette in 1993.
C64:
VIC:
You can find the rules and game strategy hints in the wiki page. Keep in mind that there's no 700 miles intermediate goal - you go directly for 1000 (no extension bonus), and that safeties in the player's pile are reduced to the first two letters to save space (for example, RI for Right-of-Way, etc). For the same reason, discarded cards are not shown on the screen.
Download the game HERE. 8k expansion required.
Have fun

OK...I'm at work now, and I still can't stop thinking about this game.
I determined that one of the bugs occurs when the number of cards remaining reduces to a single digit. The display no longer wraps around to the next line, and the player's prompt jumps up one line.
I'll try and post a screenshot when I get home later, if it helps.

Yep please, post a screenshot. Maybe I discovered the same bug: looks like everything scrolls up one line at the end of a long game, when the remaining cards are less than 10. Right?hawk wrote:I determined that one of the bugs occurs when the number of cards remaining reduces to a single digit. I just fixed it, and now you can download the new version without this bug (if you notice others please let me know).
Happy you like the game - it does the same effect on me, I just can't stop playing... Shame on me, I never discovered the bug because all my games finished with more than 10 remaining cards (either me or the VIC being too lucky ).

Here's another one. This one was also found in the first release. I haven't tried the new release yet.
The scores don't add up correctly...or at least don't display correctly.
(This shot give's away how poorly I'm doing...it plays a difficult game. )

Once again you're right, they didn't add up correctly beacause of a small typo. Now they do. Also, note that I introduced the final goal of 5000 points to reach in order to win the game, as stated in the original rules. So, no more 4-digit sums, and no more than 4-5 rounds per match.hawk wrote:The scores don't add up correctly...or at least don't display correctly.
If both players score more than 5000, the highest wins.
The file has been updated. Hope everything's working now.

I noticed it: when the VIC plays a safety, the mileage eventually appearing in your hand is blue. Furthermore, after that sometimes (but not always) the player's prompt scrolls up one line. These are cosmetic bugs that's quite hard to work on, because the program inherited them from the c64 version.
Anyway, I'll give a try next week.
