Hi.
I couldn't find a decent topic about this so...
I have been transferring some C64 .tap games to a cassette using the PTAP program and a custom-made cable that connects the datassette to parallel port. I see this program also can transfer VIC-20 tapes?
But I haven't been able to find VIC-20 .tap files anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get a good collection? Sorry if it is a kind of no-no thing to ask about in these forums, but I found no better place.
Transferring .tap files to real VIC-20

Arma is the man when it comes to tap images. I would start with his website which is an unbelievable resource. There's also VIC20Tapes which is shaping up nicely although the tap images aren't online yet.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

Some italian cassettes sold in the newsstands circa 1983-87.

.tap to real disk
I have been trying to get a .tap game over to my Vic-20 but I'm having problems. It's in two parts. The first part when loaded via a disk starts looking for the second program on a actual tape while the second part of the game just freezes the Vic-20.
What am I doing wrong?
Can anybody can point me to a good Vic-20 games achieve site with .prg?

In worst case, the first part may have put code in the tape buffer that was transferred to another position before loading part #2. If so, the code in the tape buffer might've been lost when you saved part #1 to disk. Then if part #2 makes a SYS/JSR call to some place where it expects code but none is found, it would freeze.
Please tell us which game you're having problems with, and someone can look into it.
As for PRG files, Zimmers is a good start, but it only has a fraction of all VIC-20 tape software ever released, as most has only been archived as TAP files.

I'm now stuck getting it to a loading prg now.
