After 25 years... my own 80 column cartridge!!
Yes, finally, after 25 years of waiting... I finally have my own 80 column display cartridge.
Just as I suspected, I connected the video signal from it to the Y channel of the Y-Pb-Pr input of my HD TV set and got a stunningly clear display.
Now... if only I could get software to take advantage of it...

Congratulations. I saw that auction shortly after it started and I debated about bidding on it but when I saw you get involved I figured I would stay out of it lest I either end up costing you more money or worse yet, snatching it out from underneath you.
Enjoy it. They're pretty cool. I've been coveting Leif's for a few years now although, honestly, I've no use for it.

In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

I already managed to get versions of the Scott Adams games modified to display properly on 40 column displays.gklinger wrote:Congratulations. These "altered" versions were really made for the C64 but I see no reason why they wouldn't work with this type of display adapter.

The sticker on the box says it is a protecto 80.RobertBe wrote:What is the name on the cartridge, Francois?
But there is a displayed message when switching between 40/80 column mode that says it is copyrighted by Data20.
Would you have a link to that?ral-clan wrote:I have a word processor and mailing list software that was written just for the cartridge. I think I even uploaded it to Zimmers (can't remember). It was distributed by Data-20 corporation with the cartridge.
I've sent the dump to several people here on DENIAL.
I will soon try to operate this cart along with programmer's aid and see if the two can get along well.
80 columns makes a great environment to program stuff for the VIC.
Eslapion,
Files have been sent to your personal e-mail.
VIC USER and myself have had the Programmer's Aid cart running with the Data-20 board. It mostly worked. There were a few quirks but nothing big I don't think. I think if you switch from 40 to 80 colums with the function key you then have to reset the P.A. cartridge....not sure if I remember that correctly though...

Great. I remember there is a PET card game that plays okay on the VIC. There is also a game where you have a helicopter and need to put out a fire that will mostly play (but the POKE values need to be changed to make it fully functional). If you manage to convert any, please let us 80-column users know. Thanks!

Having typed in and played Hammurabi by David Ahl back in 1983, I rediscovered these:

Maybe I'll type in and save on a tape a couple of these on the VIC for the fun of it!

Excellent!
I have the first 2 of these books.
A good source of basic programs is always helpful.
I don't have spare time now, but maybe we could use OCR and save some typing.
