I was indeed refering to the Star Trek traders. I hadn't realised that the characters were based on a real character type.

I think ferengi is still considered a pejorative slang for foreigners based on their "unwelcome" prescence for trade. I think Star Trek writers conciously stole it... maybe it was an inside joke...

Wikipedia supports thia claim but give alternative possibilities for the word origin...

Hi had heard Ferengi was an Indian word (Pujabi, Hindi?). Also used for the British Colonials.

EDIT: Okay, the Wikipedia article mentions this.

Commodore 16

Post by C2N »

Hey, Hawk, there's a C-16 up for auction on Aussie eBay at the moment. It's even in its original box! I haven't bid on it though because it doesn't come with its Datassette or joystick and without these its kinda useless. Anyway, just thought that you might be interested.
Oh, and everyone else, I have noticed that many people call the Commodore tape drive a "Datasette". The correct spelling is "Datassette" with two "s"s. As far as I'm aware (please correct me if I'm wrong!) this name was invented by Commodore and so should only be used when specifically referring to Commodore tape drives. Many people use it as generic term for ALL tape drives.
Thanks, mates!

I've been watching the C-16 on Aussie EBay. I was figuring that you'd want it because it's in original box.

I'd like it, but like I said, usually these things have been selling for more than I'm prepared to pay. The trouble is that they keep getting more expensive.

Commodore 16

Post by C2N »

G'day, everyone!
I've been off-line for a few weeks but I'm back with a new Commodore 16! At last, IT IS MINE! Of course, I bought it on eBay and it was still in its original box, came with a 1531 datassette in its original box, a T 1341 joystick in its original box...well, you get the idea, it came with LOADS of stuff in near-mint condition including tons of games and software. I actually reckon that the previous owner hardly used the thing and probably sensibly upgraded to a C64 (this is what usually happens and is why you can get C16s in such good nick) once the price tag came down. It actually came with origiunal receipt of which vertually everything in the package is listed which king of confirms the use-once-then-store-in-cupboard theory. Anyway, sorry to bore everyone with my bragging and don't feel too bad, Hawk, your time will come!
Thanks, mates!
