People have to have a Vic-20 mind when reviewing Vic-20 games, but most unintentionally compare quality of a game to the C64 in terms of their expectations  An eight or nine is an exceptional game by Oldschool Gaming's scoring system (that's how the "official" writer's guide classif...

[Looks at issue 59 sat next to PC] He probably just looked it up... =-) That's hilarious  ... I went to its web site, but only see Issue #58 on sale now. I suppose the real subscribers get the issue in advance of the newsstands. I'll have to wait until next month then. i don't have a subscript...

Has anyone seen Omega Race running on Sega Genesis? Looks and plays exactly like on a VIC 20, so much so that I cannot believe it was ported ... but rather cloned via software emulation. That could be a similar situation to Head Over Heels on the C64, the original Z80 code was translated into 6502 ...

Thanks for the quick reference, I'll look for it when that issue becomes available -- wow! How is it that you even know the page number? [Looks at issue 59 sat next to PC] He probably just looked it up... =-) The scoring system changed after the original text was written to just give a final percen...

If the mastering is anything like the C64 stuff i sent him, the issue is probably transferring the stuff to a disk ready to be written out to tape...

There are no deadlines, so a game can be polished indeterminely long instead of finish this and start working on the next game instead. This is the biggie i reckon, a game can be in limbo for years whilst it's tweaked, tuned and generally made ready; look at Xeo3 on the Plus/4, i've been waiting fo...

Hasn't it been a busy month for VIC releases! =-) Just a suggestion since there's a C64 port of this one, but have you considered doing a C16 version as well...?

Not at all bad, it reminds me a little of a game on the C64 called Quantum (written by an old friend of mine) but that's a good thing. =-)

i'd much rather see extras like more sound, presentation graphics and so forth... instructions could be added in the same way groups like Hokuto Force or Nostalgia do, by compressing the game first and then linking the documentation to that compressed file but "traditionally" the docs were...

i remember a friend who went on to crack on the C64 under the handle Mad Mekon saying that the hardest thing he ever found was VIC Tape Backup by Rae West, lots of pseudo opcodes in the loader and so forth. He did break it, though...

then sending to someone with a real VIC set up Does that mean you don't have a VIC-20 readily available on your workbench, or that you don't own a working VIC-20 at all? i have a couple of working machines but they're in storage at the moment (well okay, my dad's shed) - sadly i don't have a lot of...

Using a Windows 2000 box, Crimson Editor and C64Asm to develop, VICE to test and then sending to someone with a real VIC set up for metal testing; i use roughly the same route for every 8-bit i write for these days.
