Re: VIC-20 joystick - which is the real way?
I did not know much about VIC-20 hardware during the time I had one, but on my Radio Shack Color Computer I am aware that there were certain I/O registers that were ghosted, [...] ... or mirrored ... [...] and would appear in multiple places. Is something like this happening here? Not here, in a ce...

Re: VIC-20 joystick - which is the real way?
I saw a ping-pong-game with paddles. That is a step further in coding. :? I remember using my Uncle’s Atari VCS (as it was known back then) joystick in my VIC, but I never owned a joystick for it. I do not recall ever playing any paddle games, or even realizing the VIC-20 could support the Atari pa...

Lights Out: My first VIC-20 game since 1983…
After my first year with the VIC-20, I moved on to a Radio Shack Color Computer. I had not touched anything VIC until I found my old Datasette tapes some years ago and tried to get them running on an emulator. I also imported a TheVIC20 from the UK so I could have something with a Commodore keyboard...

VIC-20 joystick - which is the real way?
I recently obtained a copy of my first-ever published program (in a newsletter, heh) and found it odd I chose to use "Up" and "Down" on the joystick to move left and right. I did some research and discovered the routine I was using was incorrect, and never read the byte that cont...

Re: VIC-NIC News
Persistence has paid off! Someone found my quest. They had seven issues, and found my program in #6. I am hoping they will consider scanning all their copies so we can get them archived. Ah, the doodles of a junior high kid! https://subethasoftware.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Eggs-program-for-VIC...

Demo with cartoons character that "wrote" on the screen with a pencil.
I am trying to track down a VIC-20 program I had. It drew a little character that was holding a pencil. It would "write" (moving the hand up and down or something, simple animation) and then move to the right leaving a letter. It was a title screen -- maybe something from the FOX-20 tape m...

Re: VIC-20 manual type in games - how many revisions/versions?
It is somewhat unlikely that these three type-ins would have received any kind of official "updates" during the time the VIC-20 was sold. As far as I'm concerned, the printout of the games you linked to on archive.org is exactly the one I know from the manual that came with my (German) VC...

Does anyone recognize this VIC-20 music program?
Does anyone recognize this as a VIC-20 demo program? It was on a tape surrounded by things I wrote, but I do not recall writing this: https://github.com/allenhuffman/VIC-20/tree/main/music The code looks like other programs I wrote, but since I was using things from the VIC-20 manual (variables for ...

VIC-20 manual type in games - how many revisions/versions?
I received my VIC-20 for Christmas when it was very new. It was still selling for $299.99 at the time, corresponding to Captain Kirk telling us it was "the first full featured color computer for under $300" in the TV ads. In the back of the included book were three type-in games. When I fo...

Re: VIC-NIC News
Phone Home is on this page. A program originally printed in VIC-NIC News, also by the same person who did their Ask Dennis column and at least one other program (Mojave Desert Adventure): http://www.vic20listings.freeolamail.com/mag_cpowplay.html Eventually, maybe my program will show up somewhere ;)

TheVIC20 USA Users Group
For folks in the USA that are importing TheVIC20, I started a Facebook forum and website with plans to turn it into a modern VIC group for us old guys playing with this emulator.

Re: VIC-20 custom characters as standalone program?
Nice work, gang! Yes, I had this working, but the numbers didn't. I realized today I had customized the digits and was not including them in my newly added DATA statements. I made this video before I realized the problem. Oh, such an exciting program! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPVlDqc5UB4 A he...

Re: VIC-20 custom characters as standalone program?

I could easily name more than two dozen threads here in Denial with games or tools which implement that technique. Nothing spectacular - you just link everything (character set and payload) into o...
