I'm interested in making simple games for the vic 20. Anyone know of any resources I could check out?

I think all you need is the user manual and maybe this site. You should be able to make simple games in no time. We would love to see them.

I know this is a bit off topic. I just got my C64 today and tested it out. For some reason the colors seem a bit off. the blues are too light. Which knob do i fiddle with?

Try adjusting those pots very slightly.

I never realized how hot a vic 20 could get. Too bad I can't add some liquid cooling to it..

Certainly the older versions with the regulator inside do. I would hope the newer models are better?

A bit, yes. I've got the earlier two prong power supply type, and it can get really hot underneath the cartridge port area.

Yes those are the ones which convert 9v AC to 5v DC inside. They have a heatsink that folds over the cartridge port.

Should i be concerned about overheating when it comes to the two prong model?

Recently i've tried to copy games from my PC to audio tape, but to no avail. I've tested the datasette, and it can load and save. But when it comes to reading recorded programs. It will load, but it will display nonsense after "found". I've tried raising the volume and maxing out the hertz, but that didn't do much. I'm thinking i'm need of a better cassette recorder. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good cassette recorder?

As has been said, it's pretty normal for them to run a bit warm. Many people reccomend putting a heatsink on the VIC (6560), but that's a separate issue. Unless you want to install a fan, there's not a whole lot else you can do. 6502dude proposed using a lower voltage transformer a while back to lower the wasted power by the voltage regulator: http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bul ... =11&t=1167. Note that for proper tape operation, you can't drop the voltage a whole lot. Also note that I'm just repeating what I've read. Maybe someone with some actual electronics knowledge can help you if you have further questions. My background in it is...limited to say the least.

Sounds like the datasette is misaligned. If the alignment is off you can still save/load files written by the datasette itself. You might try messing with this program on your C64 to help you with the alignment. http://csdb.dk/release/?id=92762

I've tried almost everything. I can't even get a program i copied onto tape to run. now it just says ready right after it attempts to load a program. typing in RUN after READY doesn't do anything. i've tried upping the hertz, i've tried reversing audio, i've tried .wav, i've tried sine, triangle, and square wave. I just think it may be the recorder since it's a cheap little handheld. The audio playback sounds like it has too much noise.
