iPhone and Denial front page

Post by Jeff-20 »

The front page won't work on iPhone since I've made recent changes. Just a blank page. Any reason why? I thought I was simplifying the page!

Not 100% certain, but it looks like you have a dangling HTML comment at the start of the style info: <!-- with no matching -->

You shouldn't need to hide style info with comments these days anyway - that was really only for old browsers like Netscape 4 and IE4...

While on the subject. Is it possible to enable tapatalk on the site? Most other forums I visit native in iPhone, iPad, Android, etc, with tapatalk.

As I understand it it works with most boards, and it is "only" to enable.

Yes, please. I love tapatalk on my iphone for keeping up with my forums. All of them that is, except Denial!

I think the version of phpBB thats hosting the forum might be pretty old.

Yes, considering the copyright message in its footer claims "2001,2005", then I would say this forum software is ancient.

I wonder what are the odds that this will happen? Seems like it might be a pretty big project to upgrade the forum softrware.

Ok.

1. I have no idea how to upgrade the phpbb. They guy who did it last time disappeared. If anyone knows, please help. Even googing didn't help. I don't want to wipe everything we've done over the last 10 years.

2. What should the correct aspect ratio of the VIC be? I think I can change that.

3. I know there are phpbb board that look great on the iphone, but I'm not sure how each do it. Do they all use this program? Does it require any special app? I'll install it as soon as I know how.

4. Any explication of my front page could be helpful. I'm not sure I understand what I did wrong.

0.825, but a range from 0.800 to 0.833 works fine. In that thread, Jeff was asking

There should be a howto at the phpbb web page.
You may have to go through several versions though if you currently are at a very old version.

Its an add on script. That part doesn't sound hard to do. Here is a link to the one for the touchbb iphone app:

http://www.messageforums.net/iphoneforu ... get=script

TouchBB supports phpBB2, phpBB3 and vBulletin (v3.6 to v4.0) forums, and requires a script called touchbb.php to be placed in your forum directory. You need to have access to the server in order to upload this file. If you don't have access, contact the forum owner or server administrator for help.

Maybe it would work with your current phpbb installation, what version is it?

Tapatalk works the same say, but I guess it’s a different script. Same idea though:

A quick looksee from a google on 'phpbb migration' appears to have information to do an upgrade to phpBB3 (its changelog shows 2008 - present activity); as well as other pages having information to make the move to another CMS, like Drupal.

I suspect this problem is not new and can be uncovered at http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/

At the very least, there must be a few other retro-community sites that have gone through a migration that can pitch in and help. Perhaps those visiting such sites can solicit help for Denial?

Try removing the <!-- immediately after the <style type="text/css"> line.
