$78.35 for shipping to Italy, even for smaller items (e.g., a joystick)? :(

I've been looking for a 1540, and yours looks very nice. Now it's mine ;-)
It will be well looked after...

I used to have a pristine 1540. In a fit of temporary insanity I traded it to Schema for some stuff. Such a great looking disk drive, especially paired to the VIC.

Agree, although older 1541s are very similar - and cheaper (I have a boxed one  ).
The white plastic casing of the VIC-1540 is smooth while that of the VIC-1541 has a granular embossed texture.
The drive faceplate of the VIC-1540 is black, while that of the VIC-1541 is dark brown.
The label on the front of the VIC-1540 has a black background, while the VIC-1541's is dark brown.

Not just cheaper, but a LOT cheaper. 1540s seem to fetch (or asking price) an insane premium, especially IF they have the mystical original ROMs in place. You know, I just don't get any reasoning behind it, besides the rarity (or insane) factor for the "collector".

For the less insane, as in casual retrogamer, yeah, I got a boxed, pristine older 1541 for $10 -- and it looks every bit as lovely when paired with VIC 20 and functions just as well. Go figure.
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

Shipping to Italy .... It should be a LOT less than that for items to Italy. I will check into it and would NEVER charge that much.

I have another 1540 I will be keeping for my own. :D
