Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Thanks for that. I see it's closing now and I _am_ tempted. Alas, due to Brexit, it's no longer easy for me to buy from UK based sellers*. Thanks anyway, Malx * It's certainly still possible, but a bit of a hassle. If sellers use eBay's world shipping program, then the cost far too high. If they hav...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Hello again. I received the components of my MiSTer over the break, and I finally had a chance today to stick them together. In general, things seem to be working. However, as far as I can tell, the Vic 20 core doesn't load from the audio in port. Additionally there's no easy way to tell the system ...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Yes, it is very similar to the Kansas City Standard. (The Z80NE looks interesting, btw. I hadn't heard of it before.) The WAVs I generate can be successfully read with minimodem. That suggests that the lowest level of encoding is correct. It doesn't validate higher level features like the checksum, ...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
I wrote the code for generating the WAV myself (it's in this PR: https://github.com/robhagemans/basicode-interpreter/pull/45). It's certainly possible there's a bug, but it definitely works in some cases. What makes BASICODE interesting (at least for me) is that it really is a loader format common t...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Hi. The basicode loader is working fine from that d64 that was posted earlier in the thread. I'm now trying to test a WAV I created containing data encoded in the BASICODE format. Since BASICODE was intended to be a widely supported common-language, I'd like to confirm my file is valid by loading it...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Hi again. I've now been messing around with BASICODE itself. It seems that emulators and audio data converters seem to have quite a lot of trouble with it. I've tried various options, but the only success I had so far is with a combination of wav2prg and the vice c64 emulator. I can occasionally get...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Thank you again. It works perfectly. Also, having the two programs neatly on one disk is very convenient.
I have a vague plan to write a BASICODE program, so it'll be nice to know it works on the Vic-20 (a machine I'm particularly fond of).

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Hurray! It works! Thank you so much for that! It makes me really happy to know these things are not lost. For completeness, here's audio of the corresponding saving program (although that's less important since BASICODE programs can be created on any number of platforms): https://drive.google.com/fi...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Hi again. I have good-ish news. I managed to source a much better audio file of the vic-20 loader: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iy7F3hiSYAGMwIh-ORYNU2TOWvJrdTAN/view?usp=sharing I got in touch with the developer of the "BASICODE in the browser" interpreter: https://robhagemans.github.i...

> Could I have the .tap file? I'll try to process it with some tools I have. Thanks for your offer. I used the following command with wav2prg: ./wav2prg --machine vic -t basicodeLoader.tap vic20Load.wav and I got this tap file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TMbaym6HlrSygtM8_EKmgP6tGxiCSyvr/view?u...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
@srowe: I've realized that your suggestion applies to decoding a basicode program on the vic 20. In fact, I haven't even gotten that far. I'm still trying to load the vic 20 program which enables basicode support. Thank you though. @nippur72: Thanks for trying. It seems that the recording isn't usab...

Re: Vic 20 Basicode
Thanks for your suggestion. Are there specific settings I should use with minimodem for vic-20 tape data?

Vic 20 Basicode
Hi there. I recently discovered Basicode ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BASICODE ), which was an attempt to define a subset of basic compatible with multiple 8-bit machines. I'd like to try it out, and while I've managed to download the software for several 8-bit machines, I've failed to locate a w...

2012 Minigame Competition
Hi all. It looks like the minigame competition is running again this year: http://minigamecompo.weebly.com/index.html I won't be entering this year, but I thought I'd let you know. The Vic is a great machine to target, since single-load games for the unexpanded machine are automatically eligible for...

Thanks Jeff-20. It is indeed awesome to see something I've worked on mentioned in print. Even though most important news sites are web-based these days, it seems appropriate that 8-bit games be reviewed in magazines (just as they were back in the day). With regard to how I publicized it, I can't say...
