Books and websites report that according to BYTE magazine 2,5 million VIC have been sold worldwide. Can anyone tell me which BYTE issue made this particular claim? Best regards, Schnurri

I couldn't find that in BYTE (searching archive.org).
I did see a couple of references in BYTE to 1 million sold as of January 1983.
In Michael Tomzcyk's book, he mentions a pedestal with the two-millionth VIC on it, displayed at CES 1984, so it's not unbelievable that another half a million were made before January 1985. (I realize made and sold are different :))

Considering how many you can still find on the second-hand market, this number seems quite plausible to me.

Do they have all BYTE issues at Archive.org? I don't think so.

I'd be surprised if they didn't. It's a huge magazine.
Poking through their archive they at least have all the issues up to 1986-ish. That's when I stopped checking.

Can someone please check if Bagnall gives the issue of that particular BYTE magazine? Best regards, Schnurri
