I wonder why they didn't make a vic-1020 but without the metal case. Would have used a lot less space.

Maybe because this one works with both vic20 models. But wasn't it introduced a long before the vic 20 CR? Anyway, would have been a lot smarter to put the psu in a separate box on the floor.
