New Vic 20 power supplies
I just found this seller on the web:
http://poweradapter.co/commodore-vic20- ... p-898.html
They claim to have 5831 pcs of the original Vic-20 power supply in stock.. Anyone know if they are any good or is it better two make one from newer components?
They also seem to have the NORTEL version which outputs 11.5V AC.

Re: New Vic 20 power supplies
just makes you go WTF???
he shows 5v in the listing and the power supply shows 9v
so he has no clue what he is talking about
and contradicts himself with the 2 part#`s being the same
I would run away as fast as I could

Hehe.. Which I did since I found a used one on ebay instead.
Re: New Vic 20 power supplies
If you go on Alibab.com there are several dealers who say they have thousands of VIC-20 parts - For example: VIC-I chips (6560). If this is true then I guess these are new-old-stock left over in Asian warehouses by Commodore. Prices are very low, but you have to buy in bulk. Since VIC I chips tend to go for $20US+ on ebay, Alibaba dealers would be a great cheap source. However, I find dealing with Alibaba very obtuse for a private individual buyer. There are strange shipping arrangements that seem to be tailored for the commercial importer, etc. and not easy to understand or anticipate if you are outside of this world.

The title says 5V which is obviously a mistake but both the information on the case as well as the specs below indicates:ken wrote:he shows 5v in the listing and the power supply shows 9v

INPUT: 117v 47-63Hz 40W
OUTPUT: 10VAC 30VA
This appears to be second generation of PSU for 2 prong NTSC VIC-20s. Having used the transformers in a couple of these for other applications, I can tell you they are extremely rugged and they don't have a capacitor inside which can cause problems.

Re: New Vic 20 power supplies
well seeing he calls it a 5V supply several times in several places ....its more than a simple mistake of 5v 9v
how about you contact them and help him fix the listing?

The company also sells NOS power supplies for the 1541-II/1581 drives.

At 42$ each, these are truly NOT worth it.RobertBe wrote:The company also sells NOS power supplies for the 1541-II/1581 drives.
You can find very good 5V/12V PSU on eBay for 1/4 that price.
Also, original 1541-II/1581 PSUs use the same type of linear regulators that make C64 PSUs computer destroyers - when they fail, they output nearly double the voltage with a nice 50/60 Hz ripple.
You can't even keep the case for vintage look as they are sealed, not held closed by screws. You have to bust the case to change the insides.
Be normal.
Re: New Vic 20 power supplies
Last night I tried to order a VIC-20 p.s. from the company. I got through most of the ordering process until I reached the message, "Sorry. We cannot process payments from your region." The company is supposed to be in New York, and my "region" is California! I immediately sent them an e-mail, inquiring about other payment options. No response.
Very odd for a company to deal like this,

Well, I tried. Today, without explanation, the company refunded my money via Paypal.I wrote:Basically, they said that everything is working now and that I should continue my order. I've just done that, paying them through Paypal.
