Just to add a couple of things to what John said..
First, as I mentioned before make sure you do a proper refresh Ctrl+F5. I tried and it works in Chrome and Firefox although IE currently has issues with the code. I'll get around to fixing that in due course.
Second if you don't want the MiniPaint character layout take the following steps to edit a bitmap of the required size (of course respecting a maximum of 256 unique characters)
1) In the main screen area select the required bitmap area (Select All button selects the entire screen).
2) Select the character in the table where you would like the bitmap to be allocated from.
2) Click "Layout Cols" (or Rows as prefered)
3) Click "Edit as Bitmap"
4) The bitmap window will open
5) Click "Select All" in the bitmap window.
6) Click "Clear" to "wipe" the character data for those characters.
7) Edit as required.
btw, I plan to add some more functionality to the bitmap window in the future. Maybe some "paint" type tools such as lines, fills, fonts placement etc.
