Clowns - I love it!

Post by naujoks »

Why are there so many of you that don't like CLOWNS? I think it works marvellously, is really fun and hilarious when the speed is really high. It's fun to compete with a second player, and the whiny death music is very funny too. It's well programmed and has my favourite font set... I'll give it an A*!

One of my favorites too!

Unfortunately, I am unable to get jitter-free paddles, so I can't play Clowns or any other paddle games properly.

Search for the paddle thread here; I believe there is a solution to jitter.

It's probably the ol' type-in game from Compute magazine, CIRCUS. That game was just painfully slow.

The entry for Clowns in the Digital Press Vic20 guide that Ward left me states that people have come across a joystick version of the game in their travels.

Well, folks, I don't want to tease you, but I have the joystick version (on tape, mind you), and I can tell you it's anything but slow (mindblowingly fast in fact), and it plays like a dream with joystick. That's why it's ony of my top 5 games.

I don't know if you guys have the same thing as I do: I have a whole cassette full of cartridge games. I'm using a 16kb memory cartridge, which some wizz kid back in the 80s made switchable, so that when I flick the switch the VIC-20 shows 3.5kb free memory, but it reserves memory for the cartridge programmes. Every game has 2 parts: the first one being something like a turbo tape loader. Once that's loaded I have to type SYS4100. And - hey presto! - no 15 seconds later the programme is loaded and I can start it with SYS64802.

This is also how my version of clowns works. I haven't got the faintest idea how to convert this as a PC file!

One of my favourite games too!
