As an alternative, there is the uIEC. Jim Brain said it should work on a VIC20, and I'll try to test it with my VIC in September at SWRAP.

Just copy all the files you want onto the Flash card with your PC, and include a copy of Boray's menu program (or use Leif's utility cartridge ). Just load the menu, then pick the game you want.

Perhaps one can make a daughter board which takes a much larger EPROM or Flash and uses a second set of DIP switches to select an image of 32 games at a time?
As a side note, I've been promised another VIC-20 multicart design is about to get produced in small quantities later on 2010.

Mega-Cart: the cartridge you plug in once and for all.
