Reviving this old thread.
I just got a pair of VIC-20 paddles, thinking I could finally play some of the paddle games I was never able to play before, but the jitter makes it impossible.
I swapped the pots, but no change. So I came across this thread and saw the the problem doesn't lie in the pots.

Has anything been invented yet to de-jitter the paddles?

Is it about the Micromys V5? Am I understanding it correctly that you'd replace the paddle with a mouse?
That would be a last resort to me. It would be really fun to be able to use the original paddles.

Yeah micromys v5 you can replace paddles by mouse. upside is that it is rock stable. downside is that you only get one "paddle".

that said, after a while i found it a LOT nicer to use the mouse instead of real paddles... it works very good for most games

Ahh no, using a mouse would not be satisfactory for me.
Back in about 1983 I used to have a copy (erm!) of Breakout, the paddles only version, and it bugs me to this day that I wasn't able to play.
And now I finally have paddles, but they're not working :(

Of course you did try to clean the carbon tracks inside the pots with some electric contact spray cleaner, did you?

Yeah there really isn't much to the paddles once you open them up, I have about 4 sets of 2600 ones and once I opened them all up, carefully cleaned all the black stuff off the contacts and reassembled them they all worked perfectly.

There's not alot else that can go wrong, there's no chips or anything.
