What internet programs are you using?

Post by Boray »

I have just started to use Mozilla Firefox web browser and their email program Thunderbird. I think both seems to be really good. No more disturbing popup windows while browsing, and I have heard they are more resistant to viruses as well compared to microsoft...

  • surfing: Firefox (win32) + adblock extension. (adblock lets you selectively remove ads. Both images and flash-content.)
  • email: Mostly pine (linux). Sometimes Thunderbird (win32).
  • ftp: ncftp (linux).
  • downloading large files in the background: wget (linux).

Firefox for surfing, Thunderbird (Home Email) or Novell Groupwise (Work Email), WS_FTP, Outlook Express for Usenet, mIRC, Trillian Free for ICQ/MSN etc.

tlr, thanks for the pointer to adblock. Embedded flash ads were starting to drive me nuts!

Firefox and Thunderbird, both on Linux. Sometimes pine for email. The few times I boot into Windows (mostly to play games) and feel the need to surf, I use Firefox there too.
