Best Disk Drive for VIC

I just missed out on this.

I already have one, but I like it so much that I really want a spare. This is the best drive for the VIC. NO competition.

An LED number on the front shows exactly what track it is on, and the number shows error messages as well! I also clocked this drive as much much faster than any other commodore drive. I say it is a must-have.

The only other drive I want now is a 1581. I have already used all versions of the 1541 (and 1541 II), as well as the 1571. None compare.

What drives do you use? Like?

I picked up a classic white "VIC-1541" to go with my VIC-20, and replaced the ROM chip in it with an EPROM containing the 1540 ROM code.

I don't use my 64HDD box on my C64 any more since I got an IDE64, so I'm thinking of loading it with VIC games and using it on the VIC. No more floppies!

Did you notice any difference in load speed with 1540 rom image?

I may give this a try if it has some value. I also have a white Vic-1541.

I haven't timed it with a stopwatch yet, but it seemed a little faster, especially when loading a long directory.

I have a 1540 drive on my VIC system that I bought at last year's LUCKI Expo. Works great, looks really cool.
