Next FCUG meeting - VIC-20 galore!

Post by RobertBe »

(usually I don't post announcements of our club meetings here, but this meeting is a special one)

Merry Christmas, C= and Amiga aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, December 20, at

The Pizza Pit
2701 N. Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Princeton)
Fresno, California

For this month we concentrate on the VIC-20. We'll investigate the new VIC-20 Multicart/Development Cart from Kent Rittenhouse, the new Planet X1 game from David Murray, and the new Denial Collection 3 (seven games on tape!) from Jeff Daniels. If there is time, we'll look at Plus Term, a VIC-20 terminal program that works with 16k ram expansion.

Also the Molly Friedrich-designed Steampunk C64 (o.k., you can change it to a Steampunk VIC-20) will be unveiled/unwrapped. To get a sneak peek at the Steampunk C64, go to

Truly,
Robert Bernardo

P.S. For you Amigans, I'm bringing the Amiga CD-32 plus SX-32 attachment. A work in progress!

P.P.S. We will be also discussing the disposition of Autumn Techonologies' Digimaster (audio-digitizing program) for the C64. More details at the meeting.

A last minute change in the meeting location... we will now meet at

El Bajio Restaurant
2320 N. Blackstone Ave.
Fresno , California

The change was to accomodate our filmmaker friends, Rory and Jerold, who are coming from Hollywood to visit our group again. El Bajio has better interior lighting and better interior sound properties, which are so important for filmmakers.

Happy New Year, C= and Amiga aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, January 10, at

The Pizza Pit
2701 N. Blackstone Ave. (corner
of Blackstone and Princeton) Fresno, California

This month we finish looking at various items for the VIC-20 -- the new Planet X1 game from David Murray and the new Denial Collection 3 from Jeff Daniels. Also we will examine the rare and mysterious Hamtext cart for the VIC-20, complete with instruction binder and accessory interface cartridge (ooo, blinking lights).

Not to leave the C64 out in the cold, we'll look at the David Haynes' Commodore Archive DVDs, 20 discs full of .pdf's of Commodore magazines and .d64s of those magazines' programs. Copies of the Archive DVDs will be distributed, as well as the club newsletter.

Happy Valentine's Day, C= and Amiga aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, February 21, at

The Pizza Pit
2701 N. Blackstone Ave. (corner
of Blackstone and Princeton)
Fresno, California

Again we'll be playing around with the Hamtext cart for the VIC-20, this time having it communicate from one VIC-20 to another (throw in that Morse code key!). More copies of David Haynes' Commodore Archive DVDs will be distributed. Last but not least, in tribute to the late Dave "Lord Ronin" Mohr, we'll look at the C64 Wolfman adventure game and the C64 Micrograms' Super Student series of educational programs (grades K-5). Those programs came straight from Dave's store.

Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, March 21 (with special guest!)

Post by RobertBe »

Happy Springtime, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Sunday, March 21, at

El Bajio Restaurant
2320 N. Blackstone Ave.
Fresno, California

Note the change in our meeting place for this month.

This month we have a special guest coming all the way from Toronto, Ontario, Canada; it's Leif Bloomquist, Commodore programmer and enthusiast extraordinaire! He'll be bringing library CDs of the Toronto PET User Group to sell. Prepare to ask him about Commodore, TPUG, Toronto, or Canada in general! :)

In keeping with this meeting's Canadian theme, we'll looking at the VIC-20 programs on cassette from Canadian Tire - programs such as Depth Charge, Rocket Command, and Miniature Golf.

As if that's not enough, we still have leftover programs from last month that we did not get to - Wolfman for the C64 and Micrograms' Super Student programs for the C64.

More copies of David Haynes' Commodore Archive DVDs will be distributed as will be the latest newsletter.

Whew!

I guess Robert has forgiven Leif for daring to suggest that his behaviour regarding Jeri was making people uncomfortable. If memory serves, Robert even went so far as to email an organizer of World of Commodore 2005 saying he wouldn't attend because of the comment. Ha!
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

The weekend went well. After the TOGA meeting on Saturday, I hung around the San Jose area and picked up Leif at the airport at about 9 p.m.. The three-hour drive back to the valley was not boring at all, as we talked about FCUG, TPUG, life in Canada, life in California, Commodore, C= projects, CommVEx, WoC, etc..

On Sunday morning, treasurer Dick Estel picked up Leif at the Picadilly Inn Airport where I had left him for the night; they were both there at our meeting place when I arrived. Soon after, the other club members arrived. Over plates of tasty Mexican food, we had more talk about TPUG, Leif's projects, our projects, Canada... and then the presentations. Leif got to play around with the Hamtext cart, and member Roger gave him a quick rundown of the cart. Leif introduced some of the programs on the Canadian Tyre VIC-20 tape. I presented the Super Student programs for the C64 (only kindergarten and fifth grade... no time for the other grades); we all laughed at what came over the monitor loudspeaker for the sound of success and for the sound of failure. (That'll encourage the students! ;) ) Then Leif played around with the Wolfman adventure game for the C64, and he was pretty good at figuring it out. Dick took photos, which eventually will be posted on our website.

Afterwards, I treated Leif to the Blackie Gejeian's 51st Annual Autorama (hot rod show) at the Fresno Convention Center, and we spent an hour there before I brought him to the Greyhound bus station. I saw him off as he took the bus back to San Jose.

Since people seem so intrigued by my comings and goings: I made it to San Jose safe and sound. In Santa Clara now, off to San Francisco this evening. (I'm feeling like one of the Trailer Park Boys)

Robert, you omitted the demo (and subsequent sales) of the TPUG Library CD.

Hey, where's the documentary crew following you? ;)

Oops, that's what we get for not having an official club secretary to record the minutes. :) Yes, Leif sold all of his TPUG Library CDs that he brought, and we even wanted to buy his band's CDs. (That reminds me that we need to sell TPUG CDs at CommVEx.) And whenever Leif has his MIDI for the VIC-20 ready to sell, we'll buy and demo that, too.

It's coming back to me now,

Next FCUG meeting - Saturday, April 10

Post by RobertBe »

Greetings, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 1+ p.m., Saturday, April 10, at

The Pizza Pit Restaurant
2705 N. Blackstone Ave. (corner of Blackstone and Princeton)
Fresno, California

We're back to our regular place, but note the change in our meeting date for this month, Saturday instead of Sunday.

This month we will look at Andrew Martin's new Hi-Res Workstation v2.0 for the C64 (v1.0 previously was released in Loadstar #175). Also we'll investigate the AEASoft MBAText (Morse, Baudot, ASCII) cartridge, included AEA Computer Patch Interface, and supplementary disks for the C64. (Yup, more ham radio stuff.) The last batch of the David Haynes' Commodore Archive DVDs will be distributed. Finally, if there is time, we will take a peek at the load of VIC-20, C64, and Amiga software obtained from Jim Scabery of Portland, Oregon -- software like Rescue at Rigel and Quick Brown Fox.

Whew!
