[eBay] Fake Datassette in UK

Post by orion70 »

Look at this: I don't think it's original. Interesting, isn't it?

Hm, yes. Some third party cassette recorders look very similar to the Commodore 1530, but this one must've been made by the same factory. At least it doesn't say Commodore anywhere on the front label nor box. But it has the metal wire coming out of the connector, so if it is a clone they made sure to copy every small detail.

Maybe it was possible to order Datassettes in larger quantities and get those without the Commodore logo? Some sort of reverse OEM branding.. On the other hand, the buyer probably would have liked to slap their own brand onto it. To speculate further, Commodore may have allowed ordering of non-branded 1530's but prohibited companies from putting their own brand there instead of the CBM one.

These unused third party datasettes pop up quite often on the UK website. I've bought some of them, but I tend to favour the official Commodore ones.
