Sub Hunter release (C64)

Post by fgasking »

For anyone interested, we recently created a game called "Sub Hunter" which was based on the Vic 20 version of Sub Hunt by Mastertronic. The reason was that we were so narked off with the official C64 version that we did a new one.

Originally it started as a straight Vic 20 conversion, and grew out of hand. The game is already on sale at Psytronik Software (http://www.binaryzone.org/retrostore/in ... x&cPath=87), but the free download is released for Christmas tomorrow at http://www.c64.com

This version contains bonus goodies which include a tribute Vic 20 conversion of the original game.

Thanks for that. Not only will I get the downloadable version, but I will buy the commercial version. Just waiting for January...

Merry Christmas!

One thing I should mention is that it is currently PAL only :(

Psytronik are releasing Mayhem In Monsterland as a NTSC option, so maybe we can find someone willing to do a quick NTSC fix for Sub Hunter and then the same can be offered.

Don't worry. I'm sure that Robert will post that he has a PAL machine in his storage. :roll:
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

I found this kind of antagonizing comments rather misplaced...

I do have a PAL machine... but its an NTSC machine I managed to get autographed by Michael Tomczyk...

No worries, Frank. I got a PAL C64 back in 1995 during my first trip to Europe, a PAL C128D and PAL Plus/4 during my 1998 European trip, and a PAL VIC-20 during this year's trip to Europe. My European friends really know how to take care of me. :)

Have you contacted master programmer, Robin Harbron, up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada?

Merry Christmas!

I think it would be interesting to compile a wiki list of games that started on the VIC and were ported to the 64 and games that started on the 64 and were ported to the VIC. The latter list would be very interesting to me.

Can anyone think of anything ported TO the VIC from the 64?

I haven't no, though if no-one else is fixing up Sub Hunter I may ask him if he would be willing to do a fix for us. It depends if there is much demand in an NTSC version or not :) (I suspect the demand will be greater for Mayhem In Monsterland! )

@Jeff ... I can think of two from C64 to Vic 20...

* Lunar Blitz - By Jason TMR Kelk
* Plumb Crazy - Terminal Soft (C64 date is 1984, Vic 20 is 1985)

Heh :)

I actually spent a couple days working on the parallax scroll code for the PAL version of Sub Hunter, but don't seem to have even got a greet in the game for my efforts! I suppose I wasn't doing it for the fame though? :)

Frank, you'll have to correct that. :)

Hey, Robin, I'm thinking of you for another project, but it's way too early to tell you about it. Anyway, Merry Christmas to all!

Robin, i'm *really* sorry about this! ... I tried to credit everyone involved in some way on the game, but i'll blame Richard for this one. I wasn't aware that you helped on the scroller - so certainly you *should* have had a mention.

Can I make it up possibly with a free copy of the game from Psytronik? - the deluxe edition?
