My collection of commodores

Had quite a therapy session today. I reorganized my shed (the place where I keep all my computers)...

While I was at it I took a couple of pictures of the Commodore-section of my collection:

This is all the boxed Commdore-computers (and pongs) I own. I have som more loose computers and some boxed accessories, but they will have to wait for another day...

That 1001 looks so sexy. I never knew about the web it before now. I googled it. Interesting (if I cared about 64 computers, I don't).

The Web.it could be made to act as a VIC as well. One just need to find one of the older VIC-emulators that can be run on a Intel 486 computer with plain DOS.

Any hint to which emulator I should use?

The ones mentioned by Brendan Jones for Sorcery were PCVic and V20.

Nice collection, no C64GS though? Have the MAX and Vic-1001 myself, just really looking for a C65 (yeah right) and Japanese C64 now...

Nope, no C64GS yet... There are a couple of things missing in the collection before I'm really satisfied:
A SX-64
A C64GS
A Japanese C64
A C65 would be nice, but what's the chance of that happening?

And preferably they should all be boxed.

Now I'm off to find PCVic and V20 for my Web.it...

Isn't Sweden pretty cold to keep those things in a shed? Or am I understanding shed wrong? If this is a cold shed in the winter, what has been your experience with that? Does the freezing every year hurt them?

Not criticizing, just wondering. I keep all my stuff in the house. I won't even put it in the garage, though my wife has tried several times to make me move it all out there

It's not an cold shed... It's insulated and I use an electric radiator in the winters to keep the temperature around and above 10 degrees Celsius (about 50 degrees Fahrenheit). So there is no freezing for my precious computers.

Even if it's really cold outside.

I'd never put the computers in a place that is cold. I don't think that they would survive too long in such an environment. But I might be wrong.

Due to lack of space in my house I am forced to keep a portion of my collection a cold garage. It can drop to -20C on certain days here in Ontario. There are months where it is regularly below freezing. I also keep boxes of PC parts, monitors, hard drives, floppy drives, etc. out there.

If I had a choice I would keep them in a more controlled environment, but alas I have no choice.

However, I have never had a problem with any of the computer parts (either Commodore 8-bit, Amiga, or PC) even though they have weathered at least five years out there.

My main VIC-20, a Vectrex, ColecoVision and Intellivision are all out on a front room of the house (set up and useable) which, while not as cold as the garage, does drop down near freezing for about two months during the winter. It is really an enclosed porch with single pane windows, so there's no hope of heating it. I've never had a problem with any of those either.

As for that C64 web-it. Very interesting. I've heard it was pretty terrible.

I believe the Commodore 65 both is more common and perhaps cheaper than a Japanese C64?

Well, then I'll try hunting down a SX-64 and a C64GS first...

Does anyone know how many Japanese 64s that were sold?

Well personally I've seen far more C65s sell and know more people with C65s than the Japanese C64...

Relative rarity scale, as I see it:

SX-64
C64GS
CBM 700 series (to me they're dirt common, but I'm spolied)
VIC-1001
...
C65
...
Japanese C64
C232

Any more relevant prototypes or commercial machines that should go there? Oh yes, MAX Machine. Given the number appearing on eBay last year, I think it is on par with the C64GS.

Uhhh....the Commodore LCD (some parts are in collectors' hands). And also there was that demo model of the VIC with the little Sony 1" TV screen in it. There was also the prototype of the Colour PET I'd love to see. Obviously, these are impossible to get for the average person (there being only one or two in existence - if not destroyed).

Then there's the Educator-64 (C64 motherboard in a PET style case). Those are actually attainable, but very hard to find.

I didn't have any space in the late '80s/early '90s when all the schools around me were getting rid of all their PET computers. Pretty much any kind I could have wanted, dual disk-drive units and everything. Now I wish I had grabbed one or two of each type!

Oh well. I'd love to some day have a PET since it was the first computer I ever used, and is what made me fall in love with computing.
